THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is seeking a hardworking, outdoor-driven Game Lands Maintenance Worker 1 to help build, maintain, and enhance Pennsylvania's game lands and wildlife habitats. Int this role, you will operate heavy equipment, construct and repair infrastructure, manage habitat projects, assist with prescribed fires, and work across forests, fields, and rugged terrain to support healthy ecosystems and public access. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this important role, you will have the opportunity to support the maintenance and enhancement of Pennsylvania State Game Lands through varied outdoor tasks. As a Game Lands Maintenance Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:


  • Land Maintenance: Prepare and upkeep game land grounds and facilities using tools, equipment, and manual labor
  • Trail Construction: Build and repair trails, gates, signage, and infrastructure to support public recreational access
  • Habitat Support: Assist in creating openings, pruning trees, planting seedlings, and building wildlife structures
  • Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain tools such as chainsaws, snow blowers, and off-road vehicles
  • Safety Practices: Follow safety standards, attend trainings, perform prescribed burns, and report unsafe conditions
  • Support Programs: Help with surveys, boundary line marking, nursery seed collection, and highway-killed animal recovery

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Alternate Work Schedule may be available
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of laboring experience using construction tools and equipment; or
  • One year of farming experience using agricultural tools and equipment; or
  • One year of construction equipment operation experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
  • This position requires the selected candidate to obtain an active Class A Commercial Driver's License within one year of employment in this job.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
