Position Announcement

Working under the Director of Student Success and in collaboration with another full-time Academic Advisor for General Education and Student Success, this position provides structured support for academically at-risk students through one-on-one or group meetings that assist students in building academic, motivational, and college success skills. Works with students in the Student Success Program and students referred to the Student Success Program. The Academic Success Advisor works with other Utah Tech University (UT) student support services to create a comprehensive model of support and accountability for academically at-risk students. This position will be knowledgeable of UT campus resources and appropriately refer at-risk students to those resources. Networks with campus faculty and staff to support students and facilitate their connection to wellness, academic, career, and faculty resources for success. Assists with New Student orientation. Responsibilities

  • Meet with assigned students periodically during each semester, depending on their needs; develop professional relationships with students to assist them in overcoming academic challenges and building academic success skills while developing their educational path.
  • Educate students regarding Utah Tech resources, and make referrals to college-wide support services; walk students over to these services as needed to provide hands-on assistance. Help students resolve roadblocks to receiving services while maintaining positive relationships with departments.
  • Track student participation in study hall, SI (Supplemental Instruction), Math Lab and the Academic Performance Center.
  • Help students resolve holds, progress in math and English, graduate from the Student Success Program, and declare a major.
  • Support students in completing their associate degree on the way to a bachelor's degree.
  • Complete midterm campaigns to assess current grades and create timely academic recovery strategies.
  • Use Navigate to carefully track student interactions, connect with students, schedule appointments and support student connection and success.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other departments and offices to facilitate student success.
  • Assist in yearly Commencement ceremony with Academic Advising team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, social work, education, or related field required. Master's degree in a related field preferred.Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • At least one year of experience working in higher education or closely related field required; direct experience with first year programs, advising or counseling, and/or developing and implementing learning strategies and working with students to improve academic success or retention preferred.The total qualifications required are based on a combination of education and work experience. Any experience used to meet the education requirement cannot also be used to meet the work experience requirement.
  • Understanding of academic support/tutoring, academic advising, and career services.
  • Understanding of the unique needs of learners and application of inclusive counseling methods that engage individuals of diverse learning styles, abilities, and backgrounds.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple assignments/tasks and work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated skill in use of computer software, including Microsoft Office products; ability to learn new systems specific to higher education (Slate, EAB, Banner, etc.).
  • Ability to utilize a solution-oriented approach and work in a team environment to achieve goals.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative and productive relationships with various constituency groups.
  • Ability to handle confidential student information with tact, discretion, and in compliance with FERPA and applicable laws and regulations; ability to comply with University policies relating to working with students.
  • Ability to be sensitive in working with students with diverse backgrounds.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Position will require occasional weekend and evening work as needed.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Full-time overtime-exempt staff position. Annual salary of $44,500 for bachelor's degree qualified applicant, and $47,500 for master's degree qualified applicant. Desired start date of July/August 2026.
