Overview

LMI is looking for an experienced mid-level Front-End Developer to help build and extend a portfolio of mission applications for a DoD customer on a DoD-accredited cloud platform in AWS GovCloud. You'll be an early member of a small, cross-functional application team working alongside an HCD researcher and a full-stack developer to deliver mission tools that operate up to and including IL6 environments. This position is hybrid with preference given to a San Diego, CA candidate.

This isn't a pure implementation role. The HCD researcher on this team will produce validated designs grounded in real user research, and you'll be the person who brings those designs to life with fidelity. That means you need to genuinely understand HCD principles, not just hand off mockups to code. You'll be expected to push back when a technical constraint affects the user experience, propose alternatives, and keep the build honest to what research validated.

LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact with innovation and speed. Investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI brings commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready AI to federal agencies at commercial speed.

Leveraging our mission-ready technology and solutions, proven expertise in federal deployment, and strategic relationships, we enhance outcomes for the government, efficiently and effectively. With a focus on agility and collaboration, LMI serves the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors helping agencies navigate complexity and outpace change. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI is committed to delivering impactful results that strengthen missions and drive lasting value.

This position requires an active Secret DoD clearance. This position can be remote with preference given to a San Diego, CA candidate.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

Implement validated HCD designs, translating wireframes, annotated prototypes, and design specifications into production-quality front-end code with high fidelity to the research-validated user experience
  • Own the component layer, building a reusable, maintainable UI component library that can carry forward across successive mission application builds
  • Collaborate directly with the HCD researcher throughout build, flagging when technical constraints affect design intent, proposing alternatives, and keeping implementation honest to what usability testing validated
  • Integrate front-end components with RESTful APIs provided by the full-stack developer, ensuring data flows surface correctly in the user interface
  • Apply accessibility standards and responsive design principles appropriate for classified government environments
  • Ship incrementally and stay close to users, getting things in front of people rather than perfecting in isolation

Qualifications

What We're Looking For

  • Active DoD Secret clearance
  • 3+ years of front-end development experience with demonstrated proficiency in React, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3
  • Genuine fluency in HCD and UX principles, not just familiarity with the terms, but demonstrated experience working within a human-centered design process and building to validated design outcomes
  • Experience working directly alongside UX researchers or HCD practitioners, translating research-validated wireframes and prototypes into front-end code with high fidelity
  • Experience building and maintaining reusable component libraries or design systems
  • Experience integrating front-end applications with RESTful APIs
  • Strong understanding of responsive design, accessibility standards (WCAG), and performance optimization
  • Ability to move fast and iterate without heavy specs or detailed tickets

What Will Set You Apart

  • Experience developing software in DoD or IC environments governed by federal security and compliance requirements, secure coding practices, access control, auditability, and deployment constraints in accredited systems
  • Hands-on experience with AWS GovCloud and DoD-accredited DevSecOps platforms, understanding of how classified environment constraints affect front-end tooling and deployment
  • Experience building on platforms up to IL6, or familiarity with DoD Impact Level requirements and how they shape front-end architecture decisions
  • Experience contributing to or leading a component library or design system that served multiple applications or product lines
  • A portfolio of work that demonstrates both technical execution and design sensibility; we want to see that you can tell the difference between a good and a bad user experience, and that your code reflects it
  • SOF operator or SOF-support background with understanding of SOF core activities and mission sets
