Shift Lead

Serve as a technical engineering leader at JLL!

The Shift Lead oversees the efficient, safe, and responsible operation of all building systems and equipment during assigned shift operations in support of 24/7 critical building operations. You will lead and coordinate engineering staff on your shift, reporting to the Chief Engineer and supporting the day-to-day management of direct reports. This role serves as the primary technical point of contact during shift hours, ensures continuous uptime of critical systems, coordinates work order responses, and optimizes team performance to prevent operational downtime. This position requires the Shift Lead to be on-site.

Schedule:1st Shift: 7am-3:30pm, Monday through Friday, Occasional weekend check in's with team

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Critical Systems Operations and Management

* Oversee the maintenance and continuous operation of all critical building systems during assigned shift with zero downtime tolerance

* Serve as the primary shift escalation point for technical issues and emergency situations

* Monitor building automation systems (BAS) and critical equipment performance throughout shift operations

* Coordinate and lead work order responses during shift hours, ensuring timely resolution of issues affecting building operations

* Respond effectively to emergencies and service calls as the primary technical contact during shift, ensuring minimal disruption to operations

* Conduct regular facility rounds and system checks to identify potential issues before they impact operations

* Document all shift activities, issues, and resolutions in CMMS and shift handover logs

Team Leadership and Supervision

* Supervise and support engineering team members during assigned shift under Chief Engineer's direction

* Assist Chief Engineer in day-to-day management of direct reports including task assignments, performance monitoring, and accountability

* Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and guidance to engineering staff to build technical capabilities

* Foster a culture of safety, efficiency, and operational excellence among shift team members

* Conduct shift briefings to communicate priorities, safety concerns, and operational updates

* Coordinate seamlessly with other shift leads to ensure continuity of operations across all shifts

Maintenance Execution and Planning

* Execute documented planned maintenance procedures during shift, prioritizing critical technical work and high-complexity preventive maintenance tasks

* Assist Chief Engineer in implementing and updating maintenance procedures and schedules

* Coordinate contractor activities during shift hours for technical and specialized work

* Track maintenance completion rates and identify bottlenecks or resource constraints

* Ensure all maintenance activities are properly documented in CMMS systems

Technical Expertise and Problem-Solving

* Troubleshoot complex technical issues related to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and building automation systems

* Make sound technical decisions under pressure to maintain system reliability and building operations

* Identify and escalate issues requiring Chief Engineer involvement or additional resources

* Recommend system improvements and efficiency enhancements based on shift observations

Communication and Coordination

* Provide comprehensive shift handover to incoming Shift Lead, documenting all open issues and priorities

* Communicate effectively with Chief Engineer regarding shift activities, challenges, and technical concerns

* Participate in property team communications as the shift representative

* Explain technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders including property management and clients

* Maintain open lines of communication with off-shift team members to ensure 24/7 operational awareness

Safety and Compliance

* Ensure all shift activities comply with safety procedures, protocols, and regulatory requirements

* Conduct safety briefings and enforce safe work practices during shift operations

* Participate in ongoing technical, safety, and operational process training programs

* Identify and report safety hazards or compliance concerns to Chief Engineer immediately

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

Education/Training

* High school diploma or equivalent required

* Trade school education, union training, military service, or college is desirable

* Universal CFC EPA certification required

* Additional technical certifications in HVAC, electrical, or related fields preferred

Experience

* 5+ years of related experience in facilities operations, especially in critical operations environments

* Previous lead, supervisory, or team coordination experience preferred

* Experience with 24/7 critical operations or shift-based facilities management

* Proven track record working independently and making sound technical decisions

* Experience managing work orders and coordinating emergency responses

Skills and Knowledge

* Strong technical expertise in complex building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and building automation systems

* Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and serve as primary point of contact during shift hours

* Working knowledge of CMMS systems for work order management and documentation

* Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams)

* Strong customer service and communication skills with ability to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders

* Demonstrated leadership abilities with focus on team coordination and efficiency

* Solid organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple competing demands during shift operations

* Understanding of safety protocols and regulatory compliance requirements

Physical Demands and Abilities

* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

* Comfort using ladders up to 30 feet tall

* Ability to frequently climb, bend, kneel, lift, and/or drive

* Capability to conduct facility rounds and inspections throughout shift

* Ability to respond to on-call situations as part of rotation

Estimated compensation for this position:

90,000.00 - 100,000.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
