We are seeking a dedicated and community-minded part-time Vendor Enforcement Officer near the Monterey, CA area, to help local governments ensure that street vendors and mobile businesses comply with municipal codes, health and safety regulations, and permit requirements. This role is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, enjoy fieldwork, and are committed to balancing community safety with fair vendor opportunities. You will always work as part of a team, ensuring support, safety, and collaboration in every assignment.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Part-time role with flexible scheduling.
  • Hours may be coordinated to complement other employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Patrol designated areas in coordination with a team to monitor vendor activities, including food carts, street vendors, and mobile businesses.
  • Verify that vendors possess and display valid permits and licenses.
  • Educate vendors on applicable municipal codes, ordinances, and compliance requirements.
  • Address citizen complaints and investigate alleged violations related to unpermitted or unsafe vendor operations.
  • Issue citations, warnings, or notices of violation as necessary.
  • Document inspections and enforcement actions with written reports, photos, and case notes.
  • Coordinate with teammates, local law enforcement, public health officials, and other city departments to resolve violations.
  • Represent the city and Willdan in administrative hearings or court proceedings when required.
  • Promote community awareness regarding vendor regulations and public safety standards.

Job Requirements / Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to de-escalate conflicts.
  • Comfortable working in the field with frequent public contact.
  • Proficient in report writing, recordkeeping, and use of mobile enforcement tools.
  • Code Enforcement, Law Enforcement, or security officer or similar experience required.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate closely with colleagues on every assignment.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
