Responsibilities

The George Washington University Hospital's Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to fill the Senior OT role. The ARU is a 16-bed Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility located within GW Hospital. The unit serves patients who are identified as requiring intensive therapy services for 3 hours per day for at least 5 days per week, nursing care, complex discharge planning, and medical care provided by Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physicians. The ARU is CARF-accredited with specialty designations in care for patients with Stroke and Amputation.

Position Summary

  • Perform detailed assessments of adult patients' neurological, musculoskeletal, sensory, cognitive, and functional needs in the inpatient rehabilitation setting.
  • Create and implement individualized therapy plans that support patients' functional recovery and transition of care planning
  • Work in close coordination with nurses, physicians, rehab staff, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care for patients
  • Offer education and training to patients and caregivers
  • Mentor staff therapists by curating orientation and ongoing educational opportunities and providing in-services or training semi-annually
  • Facilitate staff development through goal setting, monitoring goal progression, and contribution to the performance review process
  • Includes shared administrative tasks such as patient scheduling and documentation auditing
  • This position is 40 hours (five 8-hour weekday shifts) per week, with one required weekend shift per month

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Physical Therapy program
  • Experience in an inpatient rehabilitation or hospital setting preferred
  • 3 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist
  • Must have DC License before start of employment
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals by AHA or Red Cross
