  • Function as appropriate to their "scope of practice." In general, the "scope of practice" includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per their approved standardized procedures. Familiarity with state statute for their licenses is necessary.
  • Necessary privileges should be identified by the APP and collaborating physician utilizing the list available on the Office of Medical Affairs and Governance (OMAG) website as they are incorporated into the credentialing process.
  • The Committee on Interdisciplinary Practice (CIDP) approved privileges are unique to each person and are unlikely to include ALL privileges
  • The APP may provide patient care in age groups based on their educational preparation and at all UCSF Health licensed settings and affiliates. All APPs are expected to participate in mentoring new APPs to practice and engage in the academic preparation of APP students.
  • The APP has responsibility for the standards of care for their specified patient population and evidences self-direction and accountability both to quality of care and in the development of their role within all UCSF Health locations and affiliates.
  • UCSF Health requires all Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) to be credentialed through OMAG to practice and be privileged through CIDP to function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites and affiliates. Credentialing, health plan enrollment, and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. Inability to comply with the requirements of OMAG/CIDP AT ALL TIMES, will result in either, a LOA or suspension of privileges designation.
  • The NP is accountable to, evaluated by, and provided feedback by the UCSF supervising/collaborating physician or physician designee(s) in the same clinical specialty, the Administrative Practice Manager, and other APPs/colleagues' familiar with the clinical activities of the APP professional through the OPPE and performance review processes.
