Student Welder (Student-to-Work Program) At Wabash, our Student Welder position is specifically designed for high school juniors and seniors and college students enrolled in welding or skilled trades programs who are looking to gain real-world, hands-on experience through our Student-to-Work Program. Student Welders play an important role in supporting the manufacturing of carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum products and subassemblies. This position offers the opportunity to learn alongside experienced professionals, develop technical welding skills, and gain exposure to a fast-paced production environment-all while continuing your education. Wabash provides the training and support needed to help students succeed. Candidates will complete a Qualification Weld Test, and those who need additional development may participate in our in-house Weld School to build the skills necessary to succeed on the production floor. This is an excellent opportunity for students who are motivated to grow their skills, explore career pathways in manufacturing, and potentially transition into a full-time role with Wabash after graduation. Qualifications:
Knowledge, Training, Skills and/or Experience: Experience and education are a plus; however, it's not required. Wabash provides the necessary training for all welding positions. Upon receiving an offer letter from us, you'll undergo orientation and several days of training, preparing you for the production floor. Working Conditions/Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. An employee in this position works in an environment in which safety, environmental, and health concerns may demand constant attention. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at job sites such as the noise level in the work environment can be very loud with high temperatures, and potentially even exposed to outside elements at times. Due to the work environment, all employees on the production floor must wear the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE). Physical Demands: As an employee in this position, you are regularly required to stand, walk, climb, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, handle and operate controls for the length of their entire shift. The employee needs full range of motion in their arms and hands in this position. All personnel must be able to successfully communicate with fellow employees as well. In this position some employees also work in small spaces throughout their shift and frequently lift and/or carry objects up to 50 pounds.
