The Position

The Port of Portland is hiring for a PDX Building Maintenance Mechanic (Swing Shift).

The PDX Building Maintenance Mechanic will provide skilled labor to maintain PDX Mechanical Systems throughout the Port's facilities. This role will participate in training as identified by PDX Management required to support maintenance activities to Port Aviation facilities. Maintaining and keep current on all certifications, licenses and skills to discharge the duties of this position is also necessary.

Hours are set by seniority shift bid per the labor agreement. Shifts are set for 4/10s. The successful candidate must be available to work swing shift (1600-0230).

Most likely, the successful candidate will work a swing shift: Wednesday - Saturday. This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Essential Job Duties

  • Contribute to the organization's success by successfully performing repairs and/or replacements in the following major job functions:
    • Passenger Loading Bridges
    • Backflow Preventers
    • Deicing Systems
    • Fire Protection Systems
    • Door Security Systems (doors & locks)
    • Compressed Natural Gas
    • Revolving, Sliding and Overhead Doors
    • Plumbing Systems
    • Sanitary and Storm Lift Stations
    • Trash Compaction Systems
    • Carpet, Glazing, and Finishes
    • Sign Fabrication (all applications)
    • Car Wash System
    • Dock Levelers
    • Roofing and Roof Drainage Systems
  • Other duties as assigned by PDX Management in accordance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • (Required) High school diploma or equivalent.
  • (Required) Journeyman-level experience in one or more the following trades:
    • Plumbing
    • Millwright
    • Fire systems maintenance
    • Piping and pumps
    • Welding and fabrication
    • Carpentry (paint finishes, sheetrock repair and installation and interior repairs and finishes.
  • (Required) Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and basic algebra).
  • (Preferred) Experience working at an industrial facility is preferred.

License or Certifications:

  • (Required) Oregon State General Journeyman license at time of hire.
  • (Required) Maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • (Required) Ability to obtain a Security Badge at PDX or other Port facilities with certain designations.
  • (Required) Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
    1. OR the ability to obtain one within the probationary period. (Required)
      • *All CDL training costs and licensing fees will be paid for by the Port of Portland if not in possession at time of hire.

Supplemental and Selection Information

SELECTION PROCESS (tentative schedule):

1. A minimum qualification evaluation of education, training, and experience of submitted application packets will take place by Human Resources on Thursday June 25, 2026.

2. A Subject Matter Expert (SME) Panel will perform an evaluation of experience and training taken from your employment application materials.

3. Our goal is to schedule Panel onsite interviews with candidates who successfully passed the SME evaluation on June 29, 2026.
