Job Overview
The Senior Manager - Equipment Reliability & Maintenance leads the strategy, standardization, and continuous improvement of maintenance and equipment reliability practices across the Komatsu Manufacturing Network. This role is responsible for improving equipment uptime, reducing unplanned downtime, strengthening preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and ensuring critical assets safely and consistently support production requirements.
Working closely with plant operations, engineering, maintenance, supply chain, and leadership teams, this position drives common processes, performance metrics, root cause problem solving, and long-term asset health strategies. The role is instrumental in building a proactive, data-driven reliability culture that improves safety, productivity, cost performance, and operational stability across the network. This position supervises 3-5 direct reports.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Lead and standardize equipment reliability and maintenance strategies across the Komatsu Manufacturing Network to improve safety, uptime, productivity, and operational stability.
- Develop and enhance preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs to reduce equipment failures and extend asset life.
- Drive improvement in key performance indicators, including OEE, downtime, MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance, schedule compliance, maintenance backlog, and maintenance costs.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives for major equipment failures, recurring breakdowns, and production-impacting downtime events.
- Partner with operations, engineering, maintenance, supply chain, and plant leadership teams to support production continuity, capital projects, equipment readiness, and long-term asset health.
- Standardize maintenance processes, work management practices, CMMS/EAM utilization, spare parts strategies, planning and scheduling processes, and shutdown coordination across sites.
- Build maintenance and reliability capabilities through coaching, training, leadership development, best-practice sharing, and cross-site continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure maintenance activities, contractor work, and equipment improvement efforts comply with safety requirements, Komatsu standards, regulatory expectations, and budget objectives.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Work is performed primarily in a typical office and manufacturing environment.
- May be required to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods while working at a workstation.
- Must be able to move throughout facilities to access files, attend meetings, inspect equipment, and interact with employees and stakeholders.
- Physical presence at work is required in accordance with company policy, with the ability to increase on-site presence on short notice when business needs arise.
- Occasional travel, including visits to remote locations, may be required
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Maintenance Management, or a related technical field; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive maintenance leadership experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience leading supervisors and skilled trades personnel.
- Minimal travel required, with occasional regional or corporate travel based on business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Reliability or maintenance certification (e.g., CMRP).
- Strong expertise in equipment reliability, maintenance management, asset lifecycle planning, and preventive/predictive maintenance practices within a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated success improving OEE, reducing unplanned downtime, increasing MTBF, reducing MTTR, and leveraging maintenance KPIs to drive operational performance.
- Strong leadership, coaching, communication, and change management skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams across multiple manufacturing locations.
- Proven problem-solving capabilities, including root cause analysis, data analysis, risk prioritization, and development of sustainable corrective actions.
- Working knowledge of CMMS/EAM systems, maintenance planning and scheduling, spare parts management, contractor management, safety practices, and continuous improvement methodologies.
