WHAT YOU WILL DO The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the Accounting team through the execution of day-to-day accounting activities, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with the month-end and year-end close processes. This role ensures compliance with company policies and GAAP while contributing to the accuracy, timeliness, and overall efficiency of financial reporting and accounting operations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Perform balance sheet reconciliations and proactively investigate and resolve discrepancies. Assist in the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring adherence to deadlines. Maintain accurate records of fixed assets, including ledger-to-subledger reconciliations and project accounting. Prepare and review bank reconciliations, identifying and resolving variances. Support the preparation of financial statements and management reporting packages. Assist with internal and external audits by providing documentation and responding to audit requests. Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and accounting standards (GAAP). Analyze financial results and assist in identifying trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement. Support tax-related activities including gathering and reconciling sales and use tax data, as applicable. Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Accounts Payable, Procurement, and other departments to ensure timely and accurate financial data. Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of accounting operations. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. Experience: 2-3 years of accounting or related experience preferred. KNOWLEDGE, TECHINCAL SKILL, & ABILITIES Strong understanding of general accounting principles and financial reporting High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and completeness Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics 365) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment High level of integrity and commitment to confidentiality WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU At Thompson Machinery, we believe that great benefits are more than just perks- they're essential for employee well-being and success.
