Electrical Construction Field Inspector New York, NY Pay: $37.00 - $48.00 per hour 26-06623 Job Summary The Electrical Construction Field Inspector is responsible for supporting electrical construction and infrastructure projects through field inspections, construction oversight, contractor coordination, quality assurance, safety compliance, and project documentation. This role is primarily field-based and works closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, consultants, and operations personnel to ensure construction activities comply with approved plans, specifications, applicable codes, and project requirements. The position requires frequent work at active construction sites and transportation right-of-way locations. Job Responsibilities
- Perform field inspections of electrical installations under general supervision.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, applicable codes, safety requirements, and project standards.
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, consultants, field personnel, and other project stakeholders.
- Review contractor submittals, requests for information (RFIs), shop drawings, design revisions, and field directives.
- Assist with evaluating change order proposals and documenting field conditions.
- Monitor contractor performance, construction quality, safety compliance, and overall project progress.
- Prepare field reports, inspection documentation, deficiency lists, progress updates, and project correspondence.
- Participate in project meetings and assist in resolving field issues affecting safety, quality, schedule, and constructability.
- Support electrical, communications, fire alarm, power distribution, and related infrastructure projects.
- Assist project management and resident engineering staff with construction administration and project coordination.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience in project management, project engineering, construction management, or construction inspection, or six years of applicable experience based on the education and experience equivalency requirements.
- Minimum of one year of supervisory experience or one year of project management responsibility on a large or complex construction project.
- Experience supporting electrical construction, electrical infrastructure, utility, building systems, or other complex construction projects.
- Experience coordinating with contractors, engineers, consultants, project managers, and field personnel.
- Experience performing field inspections, quality assurance activities, safety compliance monitoring, or contractor oversight.
- Knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, project documentation, applicable codes, and industry standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organize, analyze, and present project information through clear reports and documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to work in active construction environments and transportation right-of-way locations.
- Ability to work occasional evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and overtime as required.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required prior to performing work near active right-of-way locations.
- Ability to successfully complete required track safety training prior to working near active rail or right-of-way areas.
- Ability to obtain and wear required personal protective equipment, including approved safety work boots.
- Ability to perform regular walking, standing, climbing, and site inspections in active construction environments.
- Ability to travel between office locations and project sites as required.
Education
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field and a minimum of two years of applicable experience; or
- High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of six years of applicable experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience totaling six years.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
Work Experience
- Experience with electrical installation inspections preferred.
- Experience supporting transportation, transit, railroad, utility, heavy civil, or public infrastructure construction projects preferred.
- Experience reviewing RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, and contract documents preferred.
- Experience working around active rail, subway, right-of-way, or operating transportation facilities preferred.
- Familiarity with electrical power distribution, communications, fire alarm systems, conduit installation, and related infrastructure preferred.
- Knowledge of design-bid-build and design-build project delivery methods preferred.
- Familiarity with project management or document control systems such as ASITE or similar platforms preferred.
- AutoCAD or other computer-aided design (CADD) experience preferred.
