The Opportunity with McKinstry

At McKinstry, we are committed to advancing equity, sustainability, and innovation across everything we do. We are seeking a Vendor Diversity & Procurement Specialist to join our Procurement team-someone who brings strong coordination skills, curiosity, and a passion for supplier inclusion.

This role plays a unique, cross-functional position supporting both Procurement operations and Vendor Diversity initiatives, helping ensure our sourcing practices reflect our broader social responsibility commitments. You'll act as a connector across teams, supporting purchasing activities while also engaging with diverse and small business partners to expand and strengthen our supplier network.

Reporting to a Senior Program Manager - Vendor Diversity, this role partners closely with Procurement staff and leadership, the Vendor Diversity team, Project and Program Managers, and a wide range of internal stakeholders including Social Impact, Legal, and Finance, as well as external community partners and diverse suppliers.

This position is designed to build well-rounded experience across procurement, supplier diversity, and social impact-creating a strong foundation for future career growth within Procurement, Vendor Diversity, or Social Impact functions.

This role is based in Seattle, WA and operates on a hybrid work schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Vendor Diversity

  • Assists with research, coordination, and tracking of diverse and small business supplier opportunities, certifications, and outreach efforts aligned with client expectations and McKinstry's KPIs.

  • Provides broad administrative support to team initiatives; drafts, edits, and finalizes written materials; prepares presentations, reports, and collateral as assigned.

  • Attend outreach events across Seattle representing McKinstry with clients, partners and local community organizations.

  • Organize and coordinate networking events.

  • Partner with internal project teams and advocate for diverse-owned businesses.

Procurement & Purchasing Support

  • Performs technical procurement support activities including data input and operation of the procurement module in financial systems, purchase order tracking, and coordination with suppliers or service providers as directed.

  • Supports the flow of information between Procurement staff and internal stakeholders; assists with establishing and implementing procurement procedures in collaboration with Procurement leadership.

  • May purchase minor miscellaneous materials as directed; perform all assigned activities on a timely and accurate basis.

Project & Administrative Coordination

  • Takes accurate meeting notes, prepares follow-up documents, and distributes action items; supports SharePoint content management and conducts research for special projects.

  • Supports coordination of supplier outreach events and internal team meetings; manages communications with internal and external contacts with discretion and professionalism.

  • Works on special projects and initiatives as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Supply Chain, Sustainability, Social Sciences, or related field; or equivalent work experience.

  • 2-4 years of experience in procurement/purchasing, CSR/ESG, supplier diversity, project coordination, or a related role.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; sustainability; and community impact.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple high priority tasks accurately and on deadline.

  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required, SharePoint experience preferred.

  • Experience creating marketing collateral (e.g., Canva or similar tools) is a plus.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

  • Team-player mindset with the ability to work independently and proactively anticipate the needs of the people and teams being supported.

  • Ability to collaborate and navigate effectively across a national, cross-functional organization.

  • Willingness to learn, engage in personal growth, and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% annually (local and national) for meetings and offsite events; must have reliable transportation; travel expenses handled in accordance with company reimbursement policy.

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $45.00 per hour; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This is a non-exempt role and will be paid hourly. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
