IT Specialist
General Statement of Job
Work on and troubleshoot all computer and computer-related equipment in the city to include all internal/external peripherals, and any other device connecting to City network. Works at a fast-pace while providing high-quality troubleshooting and technical assistance in order to bring about a satisfactory resolution to customers. Ensures proper computer operation so that customers can accomplish business tasks. This includes receiving, assessing, prioritizing, documenting, and actively resolving customer requests and issues.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Manages Active Directory domain user and computer accounts.
Responsible for calling vendors for software/hardware support; Network Tape Backup; Network troubleshooting; Onsite technical support; PC hardware support; and PC software support.
Performs peripheral troubleshooting. Gives technical support by phone. Receives, logs, manages and documents help desk calls and remedies.
Acts as a single point of contact for user problems and follows up on the status of problems on behalf of the user. Communicates progress in a timely manner.
Responsible for setting up new computers and delivering said computers. Analyzes complex hardware and software problems to determine the most appropriate solution.
Performs setup of PDA/Phone equipment to connect with network.
Responsible for updating computer inventory and provide hardware and software training.
Acts as user-to-Network Engineer middle man.
Performs shared 7/24 stand-by support responsibility for critical Public Safety services.
Diagnoses wireless equipment. Installs, modifies, and repairs computer hardware and software.
Minimum Education and Training
Requires an Associate's Degree in computer technology / network technology supplemented by two (2) years of network operations and support experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Prefer CompTIA A+ certification, CompTIA Network + Certification, FCIC Certification, HDI Certification, Microsoft Windows and Office training. Must possess and maintain a valid state of Florida driver's license. Must submit to, and pass, a fingerprint-based national criminal history record check and must be able to obtain, and recertify as required, the appropriate Criminal Justice Security Awareness training. Must possess and maintain a valid state of Florida driver's license. Must possess or obtain the most current FEMA 100, 200, and 700 Incident Command System certifications within 6 months of appointment to the job.

Skill Requirements:
Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Information Technology Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the IT Specialist. Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Has knowledge in the areas of computer technology and networking. Is able to respond to hardware/software and connectivity problems promptly, minimizing computer down time. Has knowledge of the standard tools, materials and practices of the industry. Has knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the industry.
Is able to analyze technical problems and prepare accurate, comprehensive, clear and concise reports and recommendations. Is skilled in the use of computers for data and word processing, spreadsheet production, records management, and other applications. Has thorough knowledge of modern office practices and technology. Knows how to operate and maintain a variety of office equipment as necessary in the performance of daily activities. Has thorough knowledge of business English and basic mathematics.
Is skilled in applying attention to detail as necessary in preparing records and reports. Is able to read and interpret a variety of materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job. Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Is able to use independent judgment in performing routine and non-routine tasks. Has the ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities. Is able to provide assistance and technical support to various departments, supervisors, co-workers and the general public as needed.
Has the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. Knows how to perform duties in a courteous manner and communicate effectively with a variety of public and private groups as prescribed. Is capable of working under stressful conditions as required. Knows how to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including computers, printers, scanners, various software, general office equipment, etc. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time, stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to fifty pounds.
Responsibilities:
