Location: Remote (Must reside within 100 miles of Santa Clara Valley, CA)
Duration: 12-Month Contract
Pay Rate: $52.11/hour
Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Copy Editor to join a creative communications team supporting retail engagement, marketing, and merchandising initiatives. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented editor who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about producing polished, accurate, and engaging content across multiple communication channels. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with writers, designers, marketers, and cross-functional partners to ensure all communications meet the highest standards of clarity, consistency, grammar, and style. This individual will also contribute throughout the content development process, from initial drafts through final production, helping deliver exceptional communications that support both employee and customer experiences.
Responsibilities
Copy Editing & Proofreading
- Edit and proofread a wide range of digital and print communications for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, tone, and consistency.
- Ensure content adheres to established editorial standards and style guidelines.
- Review communications for accuracy, completeness, and readability before publication.
- Fact-check content and verify information to maintain the highest editorial standards.
Content Review & Quality Assurance
- Review projects throughout all stages of the creative, design, and production process.
- Partner with writers and creative teams to refine messaging while preserving the intended voice and purpose.
- Ensure consistency across communications, presentations, marketing materials, and internal resources.
- Identify opportunities to improve clarity, organization, and overall effectiveness of written content.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with writers, designers, marketing partners, and project stakeholders to deliver high-quality communications.
- Provide editorial guidance and constructive feedback throughout the content development process.
- Support multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to resolve editorial questions and maintain project momentum.
Editorial Standards & Innovation
- Apply industry-standard editorial practices and style guides, including The Chicago Manual of Style.
- Maintain consistency in voice, terminology, formatting, and editorial quality across deliverables.
- Explore and leverage artificial intelligence tools to enhance content development and editorial workflows where appropriate.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve editorial processes and efficiencies.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional copy editing, proofreading, or editorial experience, preferably within a creative agency, marketing organization, communications team, or corporate environment.
- Exceptional command of U.S. English grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and usage.
- Strong writing and editing skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Extensive proofreading and fact-checking experience.
- Familiarity with editorial style guides, including The Chicago Manual of Style.
- Experience editing a variety of communication formats, including:
- Internal communications
- Marketing materials
- Email campaigns
- Social media content
- Presentations
- Reference materials
- Signage
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Proficiency with productivity applications such as Pages, Numbers, and Keynote or equivalent office productivity tools.
- Interest in or experience using AI-assisted tools during content development and editing workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting retail, marketing, merchandising, or corporate communications teams.
- Experience editing content for digital and print channels.
- Familiarity with creative production and design review processes.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Passion for language, storytelling, and delivering exceptional editorial quality.
Education
- Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
