Position Summary

Boynton Health, https://boynton.umn.edu/, is seeking a customer-focused and detail-oriented Temporary Student Health Benefits Specialist to support the Office of Student Health Benefits during the University's annual enrollment period. This temporary position provides exceptional customer service while assisting students, faculty, staff, and University partners with health benefit eligibility, enrollment, billing, and coverage questions.

Working as part of a collaborative team, this position helps ensure accurate administration of student health benefit programs, resolves enrollment and eligibility issues, supports outreach activities, and contributes to a positive customer experience during one of the busiest times of the academic year. The Office of Student Health Benefits serves approximately 17,000 enrollees across the University of Minnesota system.

This position requires the ability to work on-site throughout the temporary appointment and available to work from mid-August through mid-December or up to 67 working days. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 A.M. - 5:30 P.M. (up to 40 hours per week, no overtime).

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide outstanding customer service by responding to student, faculty, staff, and departmental inquiries regarding health benefit eligibility, enrollment, billing, and coverage.
  • Assist with processing enrollments, changes, waivers, cancellations, and related benefit transactions while ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Research and resolve eligibility, enrollment, and billing issues by collaborating with University departments and insurance vendors.
  • Utilize University systems to verify eligibility, review enrollment data, and maintain accurate records.
  • Support benefit outreach and education by assisting with communications, presentations, and enrollment activities.
  • Promote a welcoming, equitable, and respectful environment while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Perform other administrative duties that support the Office of Student Health Benefits during the enrollment period.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or a combination of related education and experience totaling four (4) years.
  • Experience providing customer service in an office, healthcare, insurance, higher education, or administrative setting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and computer-based systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work on-site throughout the temporary appointment.
  • Ability to work from mid-August through mid-December or up to 67 working days.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with health insurance, employee or student benefits, or enrollment programs.
  • Experience using PeopleSoft, student information systems, or healthcare administration systems.
  • Experience working in higher education or a student services environment.

Pay and Benefits

Hourly Pay Range: $25 - $30; depending on education/qualifications/experience. This position is not eligible for health, vacation, or retirement benefits.
