Overview An established global provider of wireless communications and mission-critical infrastructure solutions is expanding its North American operations due to continued growth and the deployment of new hardware, software, and applications. To support this growth, the organization is seeking a Senior* Network Administrator* to join its operations team and support large-scale deployments and production environments. This individual will play a key role in supporting network operations, systems administration, and infrastructure management within a 24/7/365 operational environment. The position will focus heavily on supporting new platform deployments and service go-lives while ensuring network performance, reliability, security, and scalability. Position Summary The Senior Network Administrator will serve as a Tier 3 escalation resource and provide advanced support for enterprise and telecommunications network infrastructure. This position combines network administration, systems administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, security, and DevOps-focused automation. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Network Operations Center (NOC) environments, supporting internet service providers, telecommunications networks, or other mission-critical infrastructure environments. Key Responsibilities Network Operations & Support * Provide Tier 3 technical support within a 24/7/365 operations environment. * Respond to, troubleshoot, escalate, and resolve incidents in accordance with established service-level agreements (SLAs). * Serve as a primary escalation point for complex networking and infrastructure issues. * Proactively monitor network, server, and cloud environments to identify and resolve issues before they impact operations. * Assess system performance and recommend improvements and optimizations. Infrastructure Administration * Design, optimize, implement, and maintain network infrastructure across multiple office locations and cloud environments. * Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, virtualized systems, and supporting infrastructure. * Maintain user accounts, access controls, and software licensing. * Administer Linux-based systems and enterprise server environments. * Plan and execute system upgrades, patches, and security hardening activities. DevOps & Automation * Support infrastructure-as-code initiatives and automation efforts. * Develop repeatable operational processes and automated workflows. * Utilize Git-based workflows and automated deployment methodologies. * Support software testing, deployment, and release management activities. Security & Compliance * Ensure infrastructure adheres to security, compliance, and operational standards. * Conduct system audits and maintain accurate asset inventories. * Support cybersecurity best practices and vulnerability remediation efforts. * Manage VPN configurations, firewall policies, and secure access controls. Documentation & Collaboration * Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), knowledge articles, incident reports, and post-mortem documentation. * Maintain detailed documentation of infrastructure, system configurations, processes, and policies. * Collaborate with network engineers, developers, operations teams, and business stakeholders. * Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members. Required Qualifications Experience * 5+ years of Senior-level experience in network administration and/or systems administration. * Experience in a NOC environment supporting telecommunications, ISP, or other mission-critical infrastructure environments. * Strong experience troubleshooting complex issues involving routers, switches, firewalls, and network services. * Experience with virtualized server environments and enterprise infrastructure management. * Experience supporting customer-facing environments and managing escalations. Education * Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field preferred. * Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Certifications (Preferred) * Professional networking certifications (Juniper, Cisco, or equivalent). * Red Hat certifications. * Cloud certifications. * Cybersecurity certifications. Technical Requirements Routing & Switching Strong experience with: * MPLS * BGP * OSPF * EIGRP * RIP * Multicast * VLANs * Inter-VLAN Routing * Spanning Tree Protocol * BFD * VXLAN * EVPN * IS-IS * VRRP Security & VPN Technologies * IPSec VPN * SSL VPN * Advanced firewall administration * Network security best practices Systems Administration * Linux administration (Red Hat preferred) * System installation, configuration, hardening, patching, and maintenance * Storage and filesystem management including: * LVM * RAW * XFS * EXT4 * BTRFS Monitoring & Observability Experience with: * Grafana * Prometheus * Elasticsearch * Infrastructure monitoring and alerting platforms Virtualization & Cloud * Virtualized server deployment and management * Cloud-hosted infrastructure * Container platform experience preferred (OpenShift highly desired) DevOps * Git-based workflows * Automated deployment processes * Infrastructure automation and orchestration Soft Skills * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to write clear incident reports and post-mortem documentation. * Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities. * Comfortable working in high-pressure, mission-critical environments. * Ability to take initiative and work independently. * Strong collaboration and cross-functional communication skills. * Natural curiosity and desire to continuously learn new technologies. Schedule & Work Arrangement * Initially 100% onsite. * Expected onsite period of approximately six months during onboarding and training. * Potential transition to a hybrid schedule of three days onsite and two days remote after becoming fully established in the role. * Position supports the North American daytime operations team. * Participation in an on-call rotation is required. Travel * Limited travel requirements. * Potential opportunity for international travel after permanent hire, though travel is not mandatory. Top Skills * 5+ years of Senior-level Network or Systems Administration experience within a NOC, telecommunications, ISP, or mission-critical infrastructure environment. * Advanced troubleshooting experience with routers, switches, firewalls, and network infrastructure. * Strong experience supporting Linux servers, virtualized environments, monitoring platforms, and cloud infrastructure. * Experience with network security, VPN technologies, and infrastructure hardening. * Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Annapolis, MD. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60.00 - $75.00/hr.
