Position Summary

The Sports Nutritionist will provide comprehensive nutrition support for student-athletes and teams at the University of Georgia. Employee will be responsible for Sports Nutrition education and counseling to individuals student-athletes and teams in addition to working with University Food Service and outside food vendors, nutritional supplement management, and body composition analyses. Qualified applicants will hold Registered Dietitian and Licensed Dietitian (state of Georgia) credentials.

The Sports Nutritionist will report to the Director of Sports Nutrition. Effective oral and written communication skills. Experience creating computer and online educational tools is desired. The Sports Nutritionist will be expected to collaborate with a range of staff members throughout the University of Georgia Athletic Association.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Knowledge of nutrition principles as they relate to health and human performance and have experience working with high level athletes, preferably in a collegiate setting. Experience with body composition analysis and medical nutrition therapy case management.

1. serve as a team sports nutritionist

2. coordinate coverage and supervise nutritional care for student- athletes and events as

assigned by Director of Sports Nutrition

3. nutritional consultations with sports medicine staff regarding athletic injuries

4. physician referral as appropriate

a. regular communication with sport athletic trainers and S&C staff members

b. regular communication with team physicians as appropriate

5. training table support

1. organize meals, snacks and permissible items for student-athletes

a. includes practice and competition coverage and travel needs

b. design both team and individual meal plans

2. organize and direct nutritional supplement purchases and education for teams

3. supervise nutrition supplement inventory and ordering

1. perform and interpret body composition testing including BodPod and/or DEXA

2. assist with organization and administration of sports nutrition testing lab

nutrition students

2. documentation of sports nutritional testing and counseling

3. collection of pertinent medical documents (i.e.lab reports, BodPod and/or DEXA tests, etc...)

4. develop student-athlete educational materials and educational opportunities

Duties as Assigned by Director of Sports Nutrition

1. Coordinate sports nutrition services for all student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletic programs for the University of Georgia Athletic Association, under the direction of the Director of Sports Nutrition.

2. Special projects related to sports nutrition as directed by the Director of Sports Nutrition.
