DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this internship, you will have the opportunity to learn mechanical skills by working directly with trained Mechanics and assisting with various repairs and shop tasks. This position focuses on building confidence, developing technical abilities, and learning safe practices in a working garage. As a Mechanic Intern, you will perform the following duties:
- Tool Usage: Use basic hand tools, power tools, fasteners, fittings, and hardware
- Safety Practices: Learn garage safety rules and follow proper steps for welding setup and shutdown
- Repair Assistance: Help with minor repairs on fleet equipment, small engines, and facility components
- Inspection Skills: Perform preventative maintenance inspections and determine maintenance intervals
- Brake Work: Inspect, repair, or replace hydraulic disc brake parts and air brake components
- System Service: Check and service cooling, exhaust, air induction, fuel, belt, and hose systems
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- High school internship for the 2026-2027 school year.
- This internship will begin in August or September of 2026 and last through June 30, 2027.
- Work will be scheduled 28 hours/week during the school year and 37.5 or 40 hours/week during school vacations or breaks.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:
- You must be at least 16 years of age at time of hire.
- You must be a high school junior or senior vo-tech (career and technical center) student in an approved cooperative vocational program that has prepared the student for the duties and description of work described in this posting for the 2026 - 2027 school year.
- You must be in good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher).
Additional Requirements:
- Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity. Letter of Recommendation must be on letterhead.
- By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
- Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
