Summary: The Loan Analyst provides oversight, guidance, and advanced expertise in managing the institution's Federal Perkins Loan portfolio. In addition to performing complex financial analyses, this role leads the day to day activities of staff responsible for borrower account reviews, adjustments, reconciliations, and compliance tasks. The Loan Analyst ensures the accuracy and financial integrity of the portfolio, monitors workload distribution, and supports highquality service delivery to meet institutional and federal compliance requirements.
This position requires strong analytical skills, deep knowledge of loan accounting principles, the ability to interpret Perkins Program regulations, and the leadership capacity to guide team members, oversee quality, and support operational decisionmaking.
This position is remote.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $70,000.00 - $79,000.00.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze and maintain borrower accounts within the Perkins Loan portfolio
- Review payment activity, interest accrual, deferment, forbearance, cancellation, and default status
- Investigate and resolve account discrepancies, misapplied payments, and balance inconsistencies
- Coordinate account updates with third-party servicers and collection agencies
- Experience managing contract modification activities, change requests, and deliverable updates
- Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliation of the Perkins Loan servicing system to the institution's general ledger and revolving fund
- Prepare portfolio reports including:
- Outstanding principal and interest
- Delinquency and default aging
- Cash activity and collections
- Cancellation and rehabilitation activity
- Support year-end financial reporting and audit preparation
- Assist with audit and other regulatory reviews
- Ensure compliance with Federal Perkins Loan Program regulations and institutional policies
- Monitor due diligence requirements for billing, collections, and default prevention
- Maintain audit-ready documentation for account adjustments and reporting
- Identify compliance risks and recommend corrective actions
- Analyze portfolio trends and identify areas for operational improvement
- Develop tracking tools and reports to enhance oversight and decision-making
- Support system upgrades, data validation, and servicing transitions as needed
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Knowledge and understanding of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, its related regulations, and the state laws and regulations
- Ability to create presentations and provide training to staff regarding performance
- Ability to audit and review and reconcile loan balances and payments
- Capable of leading a team and coaching a team
- Detailed-oriented and ability to multi-task
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel
- Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English
- Excellent presentation and facilitations skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively within all levels of the organization
- Ability to adjust quickly to changing business needs
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possess at least 2years of related experience
- Possess at least 1 year of experience leading and coaching a team
- Possess a high school diploma or similar certification, such as the GED
- Possess the ability to pass and maintain eligibility for a 6C Level Public Trust investigation with the Department of Education
Preferred Qualifications:
- Possess a bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field, or possess an equivalent amount of experience and/or education
- Possess at least 5 years of experience in administrative support leadership role directing and managing teams on the student loan servicing contract or possess at least 5 years of experience executing operational accounting tasks on astudent loan servicing contract
- Possess at least 5 years of financial accounting/reporting and reconciliation experience
- Possess at least 2 years of experience responding to audits, reviews, and detailing the reconciliation of loan balances and payments
- Possess demonstrated strength in operational and financial analysis using manual and computerized methods
- Possess knowledge of systems and practices is commonly utilized in the occupation of a financial services organization
