THE POSITION

The Land Research Survey Technician role with the Pennsylvania Game Commission offers an exciting opportunity to support responsible land management across the Commonwealth. This position places you in both outdoor settings and county offices to help build accurate records and dependable land boundaries. You will strengthen your technical abilities while contributing to important conservation and property stewardship work. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports land research and surveying activities that define property boundaries and document land features throughout Pennsylvania. It plays an important role in gathering field data, reviewing records, and applying technical tools to evaluate land information. As a Land Research Survey Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Land Research: Review deeds, wills, assessments, and historical records to determine land ownership and title history
  • Field Measurement: Collect detailed location data and measure natural and constructed features using professional surveying equipment
  • Data Processing: Transfer, reduce, and interpret GPS and electronic survey data to support mapping and boundary assessments
  • Technical Analysis: Evaluate maps and property descriptions to identify parcel relationships and clarify boundary conditions
  • Mapping Support: Develop coordinate computations and assist in creating CAD survey maps using mathematical and technical inputs
  • Boundary Marking: Mark corners and stakeout points while clearing sight lines and maintaining field tools and equipment

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is home headquartered and maintains a home or designated office within the Northwest Region. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Engineering Technician involving technical land surveying experience including the research of land ownership and operation of both standard and electronic surveying instruments. or
  • Three years of technical land surveying experience which included research of land ownership and operation of both standard electronic surveying instruments, and training or experience which affords a working knowledge of high school level algebra, plane geometry or trigonometry. or
  • Any experience and training which affords the applicant the Required Knowledges, Skills and Abilities.

Necessary Special Requirement:

  • You must possess a valid Class 1 Pennsylvania Driver's License issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
