Job Summary:

This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic academic and clinical Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery practice. The position is a full-time, exempt Instructor-level Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner role within the Department of Orthopedics, based at Children's Hospital Colorado on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado and Network of Care locations. This role provides comprehensive care for pediatric patients with hand conditions and injuries and general trauma care in both outpatient clinic and surgical settings. This is a non-tenure-track faculty appointment that offers the opportunity to contribute to a collaborative, patient-centered, and academically driven practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain comprehensive patient histories and perform physical examinations.

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions in pediatric orthopedic hand patients.

  • Prescribe medications, physical and occupational therapy, imaging studies, and DME as appropriate.

  • Enter and manage treatment orders, including controlled substances, and perform basic orthopedic procedures such as casting, splinting, and wound dressing care.

  • Complete required documentation, including FMLA forms, school notes, and other patient-related paperwork.

  • Function as a surgical assist during operative procedures, working closely with the assigned surgeon to support safe and effective patient care.

  • Assist with postoperative care in an outpatient clinical setting.

  • Provide emergency care and lifesaving interventions when needed.

  • Collaborate with hospitalists, consulting services, residents, and support staff to coordinate patient care.

  • Participate in pediatric orthopedic trauma call as needed and assigned, including emergency department evaluations and consultation requests from outside facilities and referring providers.

  • Communicate significant clinical concerns and unexpected patient events to supervising or attending physicians.

  • Adhere to all safety, infection prevention, and environmental protocols.

  • Document patient encounters, treatment plans, and progress notes in the electronic medical record.

  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and postoperative care.

  • Support the education of medical students and other healthcare trainees as appropriate.

  • Maintain professional competency through ongoing education, literature review, and participation in conferences and training programs.

  • Contribute to the development of patient education materials, clinical protocols, and postoperative care guidelines.

  • Participate in scholarly activities, including presentations, research projects, and manuscript preparation, as appropriate.

  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for documentation and clinical workflows.

  • Support departmental and institutional initiatives, including Clinical Leadership Council priorities in collaboration with the Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned and adapt responsibilities as clinical needs and professional expertise evolve.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite at the Children's Hospital Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Current Colorado Physician Assistant license or active Colorado Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure.

  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) for Physician Assistants, or applicable national certification for Nurse Practitioners.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in orthopedic, surgical, or inpatient care is preferred.

  • New graduates may be considered with relevant hospital or orthopedic experience, strong clinical skills, and demonstrated potential for success in the role.

  • Six months to one year of related clinical experience is preferred.

  • Self-directed and highly organized.

  • Detail-oriented with strong clinical judgment.

  • Adaptable in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$111,000 - $141,000

This role is incentive and call pay eligible in addition to the base salary range listed above.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting based on years of experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
