About the Job

Working hours for this role is every other Saturday and Sunday, 8am - 4:30pm.

General Summary of Position

Performs routine clerical duties such as filing records arranged in a file in order according to an established system. Retrieves data or correspondence from files as requested within an appropriate time frame. Operates telephone system to answer incoming calls; directs callers to appropriate personnel.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answers incoming telephone calls determines purpose of calls and forward calls to appropriate personnel or department.
  • Takes and delivers messages or transfers calls to voice mail when appropriate personnel are unavailable
  • Re-direct calls as appropriate and take adequate messages when required.
  • Organize assemble and maintain medical lab files.
  • Coordinate workflow in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Greet assist and/or direct physicians and patients in a professional manner.
  • Provides backup order entry as needed
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the Laboratory Information System
  • Effectively able to utilize copiers fax machines and other office equipment
  • Delivers reports to the Nursing Units as needed.
  • Transcribes dictation utilizing full range of medical terminology.
  • Processes charge slips for manual testing

Minimal Qualifications
Education

  • High School Diploma or GED, required.

Experience

  • 1-2 years Clerical experience preferred

  • Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
  • Ability to read write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.
  • Ability to demonstrate ethical behavior that supports the hospital's mission values and commitment to compliance with all federal state and regulatory laws. Inspires trust and exhibits honesty and integrity within the scope of daily activities.

  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing managing files and records and other office procedures and terminology
