Overview

Position Summary

This position is for employment with NYK Group Americas Inc.

We are seeking a talented and proactive Corporate Counsel to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of legal experience, with a strong interest in the maritime industry (experience preferred but not required). The Corporate Counsel will provide legal support across various business functions, focusing on contract review, compliance, and governance matters. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic environment supporting both domestic and international operations.



Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of contracts including NDAs, customer service agreements, vendor contracts, and real estate leases.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel on legal matters as needed.
  • Support the business divisions in day-to-day commercial transactions and operational needs.
  • Assist with global and regional governance, risk assessment, and compliance programs, ensuring adherence to applicable laws and company policies.
  • Conduct compliance training sessions for employees across different departments.
  • Provide legal guidance on industry-specific issues, including maritime regulations (preferred but not required).
  • Maintain organized records of legal documents and ensure timely updates to contract templates and policies.
  • Stay informed about changes in relevant laws and regulations impacting the company's operations.


Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school.
  • Admission to the New Jersey Bar or eligibility to be admitted as NJ in-house counsel.
  • 2-5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in corporate law, commercial contracts, or related fields.
  • Strong negotiation and drafting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maritime industry experience is preferred but not required.

Compensation: 130K-150K
