Position Summary

The Financial Analyst II is responsible for reporting, budgeting, forecasting and providing financial analysis in Natural Gas Business Unit (NGBU) FP&A supporting Piedmont Natural Gas and Duke Energy Midwest Gas in KY and OH.

The analyst will work closely with teammates, peers, and management on various financial activities including preparation of NGBU internal reporting, monthly and YTD variance reporting at a granular level. The position will analyze and research ad-hoc requests, develop reporting, create efficiencies, and effectively prepare presentations for management review and decision making. This position will primarily support O&M work, consulting and partnering with NGBU leadership on financial priorities and challenges but will also be available to assist with capital support as needs arise. This position works closely with the overall Finance organization as well as Regulated Utility Gas Operations Accounting group. Effective communication and relationship building are crucial to succeed in this role.

Employees at this level solve more complex problems, in financial areas of specialization, with moderate guidance and direction. Employees are building their knowledge of the organization, processes and customers. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with limited guidance and direction from others.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare NGBU reporting including the functional O&M, ROCR and ad-hoc requests

  • Work with others to develop variance explanations of the NGBU results and drivers

  • Work with business partners to develop O&M budgets and upload into Onestream.

  • Prepare standard and correcting journal entries

  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations

  • Prepare standard monthly reporting, including updating powerBI dashboards

  • Understand and analyze basic system allocations

  • Assist with data requests from Regulatory and external auditors and other customers

  • Provide accounting support as needed

  • Understand and maintain proper business and financial processes to ensure adherence to internal controls and policies

  • Identify process improvements and assist in implementation to produce efficiencies at all stages of the finance process

    Required Basic Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree with major in Accounting/Finance/Economics or related discipline

    • Two (2) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree

    • Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures

    • Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, OneStream, PowerPlan, etc.) and query tools (WebI, PowerBI, cubes)

    • Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point

    Desired Qualifications
    • 4+ years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree

    • Effective communication, both oral and written, and collaboration skills

    • Analytical and critical thinking skills

    • Effective time management skills

    • Graduate degree in Accounting, Business or related fields

    • Previous experience with budgeting and forecasting

    • Previous experience with financial analysis

    • Experience applying GAAP accounting principles

    • Demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and foster good relationships with teammates and business partners

    • Operational business support experience

    • Previous experience in Utility, utility asset or regulatory accounting environment.

    • Ability to effectively perform at the experienced analyst level, including ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and adhere to strict deadlines and schedules

    Specific Requirements
    • Must have 2 years (4+ desired) of increasingly diverse or complex experience in a related field in addition to degree

    • Years of prior equivalent work-related experience in lieu of a degree is N/A unless grandfathered in and requires CFO Staff approval.

    Working Conditions
    • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to the assigned Duke Energy facility.

    • Hybrid with in-office work location 3 days per week at Duke Energy Plaza in Charlotte, NC

    • Overtime may be required

    • Occasional travel
