Preharvest sprouting (PHS) and the resulting discounts have been a problem in the heart of the Hard Red Spring Wheat region in four of the past seven growing seasons. Low Hagberg Falling Numbers (HFN) result in steeper discounts than any other quality attribute. The HFN test is an indirect measure, always taken after the fact. We are seeking a skilled and dedicated individual who will change how PHS is measured and possibly open the way to predicting when producers face the risk of PHS. This position is housed at the Northwest Research & Outreach Center, Crookston, MN, and will report directly to the project's Principal Investigator. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in seed physiology. The position requires the ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and consistently uphold high standards of work ethic, attention to detail, and timeliness.
