Title: Phlebotomist II Duration: 3 months Shift: 08:45-17:45 Location: Wichita KS Vaccine Required: Hep B, TB Description: Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations. Position Responsibilities Perform blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifugation, specimen processing, maintenance recording, and decontamination procedures Collect and store specimens according to established protocols and procedures Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures (blood, urine, fecal, etc.) to patients Demonstrate proficiency using straight needles and butterfly needles Review and fully understand physician orders before specimen collection Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes accurately Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and prepare specimens as required by test orders Verify all test requisitions and computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy Package specimens appropriately for transport Store specimens at required temperatures and ensure proper handling to maintain specimen integrity Follow protocol-specific procedures for specimen collection and transportation Maintain compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations Attend required annual departmental training sessions Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results as needed to satisfy inquiries Update and maintain accurate patient information records Minimum Qualifications Valid Phlebotomy Certification for the state of employment (required in certain states) Minimum of 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite High School Diploma or GED required 2-4 years of overall relevant experience preferred Required Skills: Phlebotomy Customer Service Flexibility Phlebotomy Skills How many draws are required daily? - 35 What is the work environment? - clinic based patient service center If this is a patient service center, how big is the location? sites see 80-120 patients per day How long is the worker expected to stand? - up to 8 hours Are there any specialties? - All populations are served Will this person work with a team or alone? - with a team of 4-6 people How many weeks of training is required at the start of this role 1-2, but learning is ongoing
