Postdoctoral Research Scholar in Dr. Mary Wilson's Lab

The Wilson Laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Iowa is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to assume a 50% position focused on the immunopathogenesis of infections due to the Leishmania species protozoa. Our studies address host factors that influence the outcome of leishmaniasis including biochemical factors in the skin, liver, and spleen and their influence on host immune and structural cell function. The influence of host conditions including obesity, under-nutrition, micronutrient deficiency, and coinfection with other pathogens will be addressed. Studies include host and pathogen transcriptomics, proteomics, lipidomics, evaluation of human clinical data, and a variety of microscopic techniques. Studies are performed in rodent models and with human samples in collaboration with colleagues in endemic countries.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree with a strong background in parasitology, microbial pathogenesis, immunology, and bioinformatic techniques. Preference is given to candidates with experience working on leishmaniasis and nutritional status, and to candidates with experience performing studies in low- or middle-income countries.

The ideal candidate will have a strong record of publication in microbial pathogenesis, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
