THE POSITION

As a County Timekeeper with the Department of Transportation, you will play an important part in helping employees get timely and correct payroll support. This position offers steady, detailed work that supports employees, solves payroll challenges, and is essential in keeping the office running efficiently. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the Monroe County Maintenance Organization by managing timekeeping, payroll tracking and employee leave documentation. You will ensure accurate records, timely processing and dependable support for staff throughout the county. As a County Timekeeper, you will perform the following duties:

  • Timekeeping Duties: Oversee county time and payroll processing and serve as the primary contact for related issues
  • Leave Management: Enter and track employee leave requests and review supporting documentation
  • Error Resolution: Research payroll or leave problems and determine steps needed for correction
  • Record Verification: Check payrolls for accuracy before inputting information into required systems
  • Employee Guidance: Explain time and payroll guidelines and assist staff with questions or concerns

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. .

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Clerical Assistant 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of moderately complex clerical experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires keyboarding skills to meet standards for speed and accuracy.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience with SAP (Systems, Applications & Products) for timekeeping
  • Experience with Union or Contract provisions resulting in variations for pay rates or entitlements
  • At least 1 year of moderately complex or advanced clerical experience with timekeeping or payroll entry for more than 20 employees
  • At least 1 year of moderately complex or advanced clerical experience with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, TEAMS)
  • At least 1 year of experience sorting, filing, and retrieving documents using a specific system to keep them organized and retrieve documents/files as needed
  • At least 2 years of customer service experience dealing with inquiries from the general public
