Teaching Specialist

The Center for Jewish Studies seeks applicants for a part-time, temporary Teaching Specialist (9754) position to teach one course in spring 2027 semester.

Duties include: teaching undergraduate students in the assigned course, holding office hours to assist and advise students, and participating in Center for Jewish Studies meetings as needed.

Course to be taught is: JWST 3319: "Jews will not replace us!" Global Antisemitism from its Origins to the Present (meeting time to be determined).

Please note, this position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. This position does not offer a STEM OPT training program.

Required Qualifications:

• MA (or foreign equivalent) in Jewish Studies or related field
• Demonstrated expertise in antisemitism studies and Holocaust education
• Commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment for a diverse student body
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated record conducting conversations about controversial or emotionally charged topics.
• Five or more years of professional or collegiate teaching experience in a classroom or seminar context
• Experience teaching about antisemitism and the Jewish experience within the broader context of racial justice education

The Center for Jewish Studies is a premier center for scholarship, education, and dialogue about Jewish history and culture. With 21 faculty and affiliate members, the Center is an intellectual hub for scholars from diverse fields. Home to an undergraduate program in Jewish studies, the center sponsors classes and conferences, supports emerging scholars, partners with the community on learning and cultural activities, and brings to the community outstanding scholarship in the field of Jewish studies. We are dedicated to exploring the important questions about Jewish history and culture from antiquity to the modern age, in fulfillment of our mission: to foster a new understanding of Jewish culture and history while also fulfilling the educational mission of the liberal arts to promote critical thought, reflection on values, and analysis of sources.

Pay Range: $1,500 - $3,500 per credit hour, also represented as $4,500 - $10,500 for the course (3 credits); depending on education/qualifications/experience.
