Job Summary

The Director of Safety Services is responsible for leading the Security team. Ensures all safety programs are effective and up to date. Assists department heads and administration with enforcing safety regulations and codes, as well as ensuring all hospital staff participate in safety training. Maintains required records. Demonstrates ongoing growth and development of self through active self-reflection, personalcompetencydevelopment strategies, and role modelingthe "Grow myself, grow my team, and grow Monument Health (G3)LeadershipCompetencies" to promote our Monument Health vision and mission.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Leads Security team. The security manager is a direct report.
  • Measures and evaluates effectiveness of safety program, using established goals. Develops and recommends new procedures and approaches to safety and loss prevention based on reports of incidents, accidents and other relevant information. Develops system policies concerning all safety and emergency management procedures.
  • Disseminates information to department heads and others regarding toxic and hazardous waste and materials, safe medical devices and supplies, emergency preparedness and other safety information.
  • Assesses the need for and initiates interim life safety measures (ILSM). Enforcement of NFPA 101 life safety code.
  • Assists department heads and administration in enforcing safety regulations and codes. Develops, reviews, and participates in safety training for hospital staff. Presents at new employee orientation. Presents in-services to various departments on request; maintains various resource media for training.
  • Acts as a reporting member to the RCH Environment of Care and Emergency Management committees on findings, recommendations, actions and monitoring at least quarterly. Supports committee meetings by collecting and formulating relevant information to facilitate decision-making.
  • Maintains administrative controls of records related to safety and health programs. Prepares and disseminates memos and reports. Maintains required records.
  • Plans, coordinates, and oversees as needed regarding asbestos control.
  • Directs the OSHA required hazard communication program by: Maintaining a system for ensuring employees have access to a comprehensive file of Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Providing assistance to directors in conducting an annual chemical inventory. Providing training in the use of and need for Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Acts as a liaison with Federal, State and Local public safety and emergency management agencies.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Required:
Education - Bachelors degree in Health Related Field

Preferred:
Experience - 5+ years of Security/Safety Experience
Education - Masters degree in Health Related Field

Physical Requirements:
Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
