Summary of the Job:

This role drives operational excellence and strategic oversight across all Deposit Exceptions operations, a mission-critical risk mitigation function managing high-volume, time-sensitive transaction decisions across multiple enterprise channels. Leads high-performing teams responsible for processing thousands of exception items daily, directly impacting the bank's risk exposure and efficiency ratio through strategic decision-making on NSF determinations, fraud prevention, and dispute resolution. Provides real-time authorization for pay/no-pay decisions affecting customer relationships and revenue protection. Prevents potential operational losses through proactive exception management, systematic fraud detection, and strategic process optimization while ensuring regulatory compliance across all deposit exception channels.

About This Role:

Key Accountabilities:

1. Strategic Operational Excellence and Risk-Based Revenue Protection

Drive operational excellence that directly impacts profitability and risk exposure by maintaining and monitoring performance metrics, quality standards, and processing timelines across all deposit exception channels.

* Execute mission-critical deposit exceptions processing managing thousands of daily exception items including NSF decisions, fraud prevention, check disputes, and Positive Pay/Payee Name Verification

* Authorize real-time pay/no-pay determinations to minimize bank losses while maintaining customer relationships and revenue streams

* Lead crisis management for time-sensitive exception processing with direct P&L and risk implications

* Optimize resource allocation to manage unpredictable volume fluctuations while maintaining service levels during critical processing windows

* Drive efficiency ratio improvements by achieving measurable reductions between actual and forecasted expenditures while exceeding production delivery and quality standards

* Execute high-stakes decision-making during daily deadline constraints, fraud alerts, and unexpected processing delays

* Implement strategic contingency frameworks for handling volume spikes or system failures that could impact risk exposure

2. Strategic Planning and Enterprise Risk Mitigation

Lead strategic planning efforts that ensure operational resilience and protect the bank from fraud losses and operational risk exposure.

* Develop sophisticated capacity planning models utilizing predictive analytics based on historical exception patterns and growth projections

* Own Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity strategy for all deposit exception operations; authorize emergency protocols to maintain operational continuity

* Present strategic forecasts and capacity requirements to leadership for capital planning decisions

* Design and implement enterprise-level controls to ensure regulatory compliance and minimize fraud and operational risk exposure

* Lead cross-functional collaboration with risk management teams to develop and execute fraud prevention strategies with measurable business impact

* Drive regulatory excellence ensuring 100% compliance with BSA/AML, Reg CC, Check 21, UCC, and EFTA requirements

3. Leadership Excellence and Talent Optimization

Build and lead high-performing teams through strategic talent management and performance optimization across Deposit Exceptions Operations.

* Execute advanced performance management strategies utilizing FNPMS practices to drive individual and team excellence

* Develop organizational capabilities through strategic coaching, feedback, and performance optimization initiatives

* Lead talent development programs including cross-training initiatives that ensure operational resilience during peak exception volumes

* Drive accountability frameworks for supervisors managing capacity planning, resource allocation, and strategic schedule management

* Maintain comprehensive talent skills matrix across all deposit exception processing functions

4. Innovation and Continuous Improvement Leadership

Drive transformational improvements that enhance organizational effectiveness and competitive positioning across deposit exception channels.

* Lead technology optimization initiatives to enhance exception processing systems, policies, and procedures for maximum efficiency

* Champion automation strategies that reduce manual exception handling, improve accuracy, and drive cost reduction

* Execute root cause analysis on exception patterns and implement systematic corrective measures that prevent recurring issues

* Support Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI) methodology to drive measurable performance gains in exception processing

5. Technical Excellence and Strategic System Leadership

Maintain enterprise-level expertise in deposit exception operations to drive operational success.

* Lead competency development initiatives across NSF processing, fraud prevention, check disputes, and reconciliation operations teams

* Drive operational excellence serving as executive escalation point for critical exception processing issues affecting business operations

* Stay current on industry trends, fraud patterns, and regulatory changes to maintain competitive positioning and compliance excellence

* Execute strategic process optimization focused on enhancing customer experience while minimizing compliance and regulatory risks

* Oversee complex GL reconciliation and research processes ensuring audit-ready documentation

6. Regulatory Leadership and Compliance Excellence

Drive enterprise compliance excellence across all deposit exception operations while ensuring regulatory requirements are exceeded.

* Lead compliance training initiatives ensuring teams maintain current knowledge of BSA/AML, fraud detection, and regulatory changes

* Implement advanced control frameworks to prevent and detect fraudulent activity across deposit channels

* Execute audit readiness strategies maintaining comprehensive documentation for regulatory reporting excellence

* Collaborate with enterprise stakeholders to fulfill audits, compliance requests, and risk monitoring requirements (TPRM, RSA, BAI, FDICIA)

* Ensure timely and accurate regulatory reporting across all exception processing channels

The Ideal Candidate for This Role:

Required:

* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent strategic leadership experience

* Minimum 10 years of deposit operations/exception processing experience with demonstrated risk management impact

* At least 5 years leading supervisory teams in high-volume, risk-critical environments

* Proven track record of operational excellence in time-sensitive, deadline-driven environments with measurable business outcomes

* Strategic capacity planning experience with resource optimization and exception processing scheduling expertise

* Crisis management and business continuity leadership experience

* Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities with demonstrated ability to drive fraud prevention improvements

* Strong understanding of payment processing and regulatory requirements (BSA, AML, Reg CC, Check 21, UCC, EFTA, NACHA)

Desired:

* Multi-channel deposit exception expertise with strategic oversight experience

* Professional certifications in banking operations or risk management

* Advanced banking systems experience including deposit processing platforms

* Performance management and optimization tools experience

Compensation:

Compensation range (base pay): $83,355.00-$141,704.00

This role may have a specific starting pay within this range.

Final compensation offer to candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.
