Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable develope mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings. We are hiring a Principal Software Engineer to join the Data Factory team. Data Factory team builds and operates Data Ingestion, Data transformation, and Data orchestration services. This team is responsible for cost-efficient delivery of these services meeting high quality and security fundamentals operating at scle. We do not just value differences or different perspectives. Responsibilities Technical Leadership Define technical vision and architecture for large systems. Lead cross-team engineering initiatives. Drive technical strategy aligned with business objectives. Make critical design and architecture decisions. Software Development Design, build, and review scalable, reliable, and secure systems. Resolve highly complex technical issues. Optimize performance, availability, and operational excellence. Guide teams in implementing engineering practices. Cross-Organization Impact Partner with Product Management, Design, Data Science, Security, and Engineering Leaders. Influence roadmaps across multiple organizations. Drive adoption of shared platforms and services. Lead major engineering investments. Mentorship & Talent Development Mentor engineers. Raise the technical bar through code reviews and design reviews. Develop engineering talent and future technical leaders. Foster engineering culture and innovation. Qualifications Required Qualifications :- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. Additional Job Requirements:- Abilityto meet Microsoft,customerand/or government security screening requirements arerequiredfor this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will berequiredto pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications :- 10+ years of software engineering experience Proven track record of delivering large-scale services or products Experience leading complex cross-team initiatives Technical Expertise Deep expertise in: Distributed systems Cloud computing System architecture Performance and scalability Security and reliability engineering Proficiency in: C# Java C++ Python Go Azure technologies Leadership Skills Strategic thinking Technical influence without direct authority Executive-level communication Strong stakeholder management Organizational problem solving Software Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $165,600 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
