What to Expect
The Service Material Planner ensures the right packaging materials and fabricated parts are available at the right place, in the right quantity, at the right time across the Service value stream. This role owns planning, procurement, and inventory of commodity packaging that protects Tesla-fabricated service parts through outbound operations and delivery to distribution centers. You willoperateas a subject-matter expert on fabricated parts packaging, with a strong working knowledge of Tesla's supply chain and production operations. You will partner daily with Demand Planning, Production Planning, Outbound Operations, Packaging Engineering, and Global Supply Management (GSM) to meet weekly requirements. Success means uninterrupted outbound flow, cost-effective packaging procurement, reliable supplier performance, and continuous improvement across the Servicedistributionnetwork.
What You'll Do
- Own quarterly purchase order management for all fabricated part packaging and supplies; partner with GSM to secure optimal cost and supply while meeting weekly demand
- Ensure the right packaging and packing supplies are available at the right location at the right time to support Service outbound operations; monitor on-hand inventory to prevent outbound interruptions from material shortages
- Coordinate with Packaging Engineering and GSM on fit-and-function trials for new and upcoming programs, ensure packaging readiness at launch, and confirm vendor-supplied packaging meets quality specs for defect-free delivery to DCs
- Create, track, and communicate ad-hoc packaging delivery requests; keep relevant teams aligned on upcoming delivery schedules and priorities
- Partner across key Service Supply Chain functions-including Engineering, Demand Planning, Material Planning, Production, Outbound, and GSM-to resolve constraints and drive on-time execution
- Track weekly attainment; escalate when performance is at risk and partner with Production Planning to drive rapid recovery plans
- Drive continuous improvement in packaging availability, inventory health, supplier performance, and process reliability across the Service value stream
What You'll Bring
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, supply chain, materials planning, or procurement
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience; or 3+ years of experience in an equivalent planning/procurement role
- Strong working knowledge of manufacturing operations, procurement, product lifecycle management, and end-to-end supply chain execution
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate data, make operational decisions, and present clear recommendations to leadership
- Demonstrated experience managing supplier operations and building effective supplier relationships
- High energy and ownership mindset, with the diplomacy and collaboration skills to influence partners inside and outside Tesla; ability to work independently across multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where flexibility and adaptability are essential
- Preferred: experience with packaging materials, outbound logistics, service parts planning, or fabricated component supply chains; proficiency in inventory analytics and reporting tools (eg, Excel, SQL, Tableau/Power BI)
