This is ahybrid position based out of Feeding America's Washington DC office location. At Feeding America, we believe in offering a flexible work environment. Employees can be in the office an average of 2 days a week (when not travelling for work) and work from home on other days. Employees also have access to a 30-day "work anywhere" program during the course of each calendar year that can be combined with PTO and/or holidays.

The Opportunity

The Specialist, Government Affairsposition supports key government affairs lobbying efforts to increase food, funds and resources for Feeding America and should have a curiosity in public policy and government affairs. This position manages resource development in support of FeedingAmerica's legislative and policy priorities and will coordinate across the government affairs and policy teams to manage federal nutrition program data collection and analysis, collect key information from the network, partners and federal agencies on programs impacting individuals facing food insecurity, and position Feeding America as the leading authority on hunger and hunger-related issues.
Compensation
Here at Feeding America national organization, equality is central to our mission and is an integral part of our compensation policies and structures. As such, we maintain transparent salary ranges and clearly defined practices for how our team, including new hire salary offers, moves through these ranges. You can expect us to offer the best salary up front based on these clearly defined pay practices with little room for negotiation. We make exceptions for highly experienced (multiple years of at-level experience) new hires in accordance with our pay practices. Once hired, employees have the opportunity to progress through salary ranges via regular merit increases and step promotions.

Salary Range: $88,740 - $93,740 Based on Experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Support thedevelopment of resourcesfor lawmakersthat areutilizedby the Government Relations team, network members, Feeding America leadership, external organizations and policymakers - with a focus on SNAP, TEFAP and other commodities,Food is Medicine,child nutritionand other issue areas as assignedthat support policy solutions to ending hunger.
  • Establish and streamline systemsto house Feeding America resourcesand work with the Policy and Advocacy teamstoregularly updateGovernment Relationsresourcesand post resources to internal platforms like Hungernet.
  • Establish and operationalize a process for providing regular reports on hill engagementfor thedepartmentin Quorum.
  • Provide support in collecting grant deliverables,key departmentreportingmeasuresand other deliverables as assigned to support the Government Relations department.
  • Supports the department leadership and the broader Government Affairs teamacross our annual appropriations work,authorizing campaigns, network fly-in's,and otherprioritiesin close collaboration with Government Relations managers.
  • Support the Government Relations and Policyteamsto develop,implementand reassess policy prioritiesand policy initiativesto advance Feeding America's agenda.
  • Monitor emerging news,federal policies and legislation affectingtheFeeding Americanetwork of food banks,otheremergency food providers, and people facing hungerincreasefood, funds, and resources.
  • Attend hearings, markups,partner meetings, and other essential information sessions toprovidehearing report outs and after-action reviews to the Government Affairs team.
  • Draft newsletter articles and powerpointslides about importantupdatesfor our weeklyGovernmentRelations newsletter,monthlynetworkwebinars, andprovidetechnicalsupport for hill briefings andexternalwebinars.
