Job Summary

The Invasive Cardiovascular "Cardiac Catheterization" Labs, aka Cardiac Cath Lab, are specialized invasive procedure rooms where diagnostic and interventional cardiac and peripheral-vascular procedures are performed under fluoroscopy on patients from neonate through geriatrics. The Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT) is an integral part of the Invasive team and is responsible for the monitoring and for the safe use of all cardiovascular equipment. The ideal incumbent will have experience or a strong knowledge base with the operation of hemodynamic monitoring equipment used for cardiovascular procedures in both the Cardiac Catheterization and OR settings. Duties include: invasive hemodynamic monitoring and recording pre/post procedure preparation including patient transport as required, digital imaging processing (e.g.; IVUS/ OCT etc.), assistance with inventory control and supply management/usage, and assists in maintaining a safe work environment. Under the direction or supervision of a physician, the CV technologist (non RT) may assist with table or patient movement only under direct supervision and only when fluoroscopy is off. They must not operate the pedal, change imaging modes, or perform any advanced fluoroscopy equipment functions. #CA-SB

Cardiovascular Tech 1

  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Graduation from an Accredited Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT)/Electrophysiology program or Allied Health Sciences program is required.
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular imaging and hemodynamic equipment, EMR and inventory management systems.
  • Ability to perform all roles of the Cath Lab Scrub Tech.
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology.
  • Skills to work accurately and quickly under pressure.
  • Judgment skills to be able to make independent clinical decisions within scope of practice.
  • Ability to set priorities, organize work independently for self and others.
  • Knowledge and recognition of pressure waveforms and ECG analysis.
  • Knowledge of Cath Lab supplies.
  • Ability to teach safety practices and equipment operational practices.
  • Ability to participate in implementing standards of patient care.
  • Ability to participate in establishing policies and procedures and in ongoing CQI program.
  • Ability to provide orientation and instruction to new Cath lab staff and teaching to cardiology fellows, nursing students and visitors.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a cooperative fashion with other staff members.
  • Ability to utilize chain of command for questions or escalations.
  • Knowledge and skills to comply with AORN standards
  • Ability to work over-time as required

Cardiovascular Tech 2

  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)
  • Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES)
  • 3 years experience as a CVT tech with Adult, Pediatric, Structural Heart and Vascular first assist experience.

Cardiovascular Tech 1

  • 1 year experience as a CVT tech with Adult, Pediatric, Structural Heart and Vascular experience.
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)
  • Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES)
  • Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)
  • Valid California Radiologist Technologist License

Cardiovascular Tech 2

  • Valid California Radiologist Technologist License (RT)
  • Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)

Work Environment
