Description

What we do

US Signal is a leading data center services provider, offering secure, reliable network, cloud hosting, colocation, data protection, and disaster recovery services - all powered by its expansive, robust fiber network. We also help customers optimize their IT resources through managed services and professional services that scale with their business.

The opportunity

US Signal is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Business Systems & AI team - a small, high-velocity engineering group building greenfield software, internal platforms, and cloud-native systems that power how the company operates. You'll write production code from day one, contribute to real project delivery, and grow your technical ownership as you develop alongside experienced engineers.

About the role

As a Software Engineer, you'll help build and ship the systems our teams rely on every day. You'll develop hands-on proficiency with cloud-native infrastructure, learn to use AI-assisted development tools as a core part of your workflow, and take on increasing autonomy as you build context across our internal platforms.

Success in this role means shipping clean, production-quality code, engaging actively in code review, and growing steadily into a trusted contributor on a fast-moving team.

What you'll do

* Contribute to Software Development: Write clean, production-quality code across greenfield projects and internal platform initiatives, working within the team's established frameworks, languages, and architectures. Participate in code review and apply feedback to continuously improve output quality.

* Support Cloud-Native Build and Deployment: Assist in building and deploying cloud-native applications, developing hands-on proficiency with infrastructure-as-code practices and cloud platform fundamentals in a real production environment.

* Participate in Technical Problem Solving: Collaborate with the Manager and broader team to investigate, scope, and implement solutions to high-impact business challenges, bringing curiosity to complex problems and delivering working software within defined timelines.

* Learn and Apply AI-Assisted Development Practices: Use AI coding tools as a core part of the development workflow to accelerate output, improve code quality, and build proficiency with the modern engineering practices the team uses every day.

* Contribute to Internal Platform Development: Build features, integrations, and documentation for US Signal's internal platforms, including Conduit, growing toward greater autonomy as experience and context develop.

Requirements

Who you are

You're an early-career engineer who's serious about the craft and eager to grow in a fast-paced environment. You write functional, thoughtful code, take code review feedback well, and bring curiosity rather than waiting for step-by-step instruction. You communicate clearly about your work, ask good questions when you're stuck, and enjoy building real things alongside experienced engineers.

What you bring to the team

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or another technical field, or equivalent practical experience

* 1+ years of professional software development experience, including internships or co-ops

* Demonstrated ability to write functional code in at least one modern programming language (Python, Go, TypeScript, or similar)

* Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) through coursework, personal projects, or work experience

Core competencies

* Simplify: Problem Solving

* Be Transparent: Communication, Trustworthiness

* Find a Way to Win: Initiative

What we offer

In return for your contributions, you'll enjoy a supportive team environment, along with:

* Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications

* Hands-on mentorship from the Manager, Software Engineering, and experienced engineers

* Real project ownership - your code ships to production

* Exposure to a modern, AI-assisted engineering workflow and cloud-native tech stack

* Remote or hybrid flexibility

* Comprehensive benefits package including generous paid time off, 10 paid holidays, comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan with employer contribution, Group Term Life insurance covered 100% by employer, and paid volunteer time
