Job Summary

The Medical Lab Scientist III performs routine and complex laboratory testing while ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality results. The role involves operating and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation, performing quality control procedures, and making technical decisions related to testing and problem-solving.


Key Responsibilities

  • Determine specimen acceptability according to established criteria.
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures in accordance with departmental SOPs.
  • Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.
  • Make technical decisions related to testing and problem-solving.
  • Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents and controls.
  • Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Monitor and replenish testing bench supplies as needed.
  • Assist with specimen processing when required.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and use appropriate PPE.
  • Work independently while collaborating effectively with the laboratory team.


Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field, or meet applicable CLIA and state regulatory requirements.
  • 5-7 years of clinical laboratory testing experience required.
  • State Medical Technologist license may be required, depending on the position requirements.
  • ASCP or AMT certification may be preferred or required based on the specific requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with computers; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to pass a standardized color vision screening.
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts based on business needs.
