HJF is seeking a Payroll Accountant II to ensure that the payroll, benefits, direct deposit, and taxes are prepared accurately and timely. Ensures the accurate posting of payroll related expenses and liability accounts in the general ledger.

This position will be in support of the Finance Department located at HJF Corporate Headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland. The candidate ensures that all the Foundation's payroll, taxes, benefits, and reports are prepared accurately and on a timely basis.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


  • Process biweekly payroll using Oracle Cloud Fusion.
  • Prepares retroactive wage adjustments, tax processing, direct deposit set up, and payroll deductions for accuracy, as well as off-cycle checks and employee terminations.
  • Prepares payroll taxes and remittance in accordance with all federal, state and local regulations.
  • Reviews and files quarterly withholding and unemployment tax reports.
  • Assists in responding to payroll procedure questions from all HJF departments and employees.
  • Manages and prepares all garnishment reports and payments.
  • Assists in training new staff.
  • Prepares and distributes labor reports as requested by HJF programs.
  • Reviews and verifies all cost center forms to return to programs for filing.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with computers and databases.
  • Experience with Excel required.
  • Operational experience with accounting software packages such as Oracle financial systems.
  • Display proficiency in general payroll practices, as well as federal and state tax regulations and policy.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, especially during periods with deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to be clear and concise.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $29.33-$38.46 Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
