The Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS) Center is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Simulation Operation Specialist. About the Opportunity The Simulation Operations Specialist (SOS) plays a critical role in advancing high-fidelity simulation-based education by managing technical operations, optimizing simulation resources, and driving instructional innovation within the David and JoAnn Shaw Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS) Center. This role collaborates directly with faculty, learners, and healthcare professionals to enhance experiential learning through advanced simulation technologies, ensuring a seamless and effective training environment. The SOS takes ownership of simulation operations, offering expertise in troubleshooting, maintenance, and instructional support while also spearheading initiatives for continuous improvement, research integration, and strategic program development. What You'll Do
- Simulation Program Management & Strategic Operations
- Serves as a primary technical expert and simulator operator, responsible for programming, testing, and executing high-fidelity simulation scenarios.
- Leads process optimization efforts, ensuring efficient operations, resource utilization, and alignment with educational objectives.
- Guides faculty and instructors in simulation technology applications, providing advanced instructional support and simulation-based teaching strategies.
- Develops and implements standard operating procedures for simulation equipment maintenance, ensuring peak operational performance and longevity.
- Oversees technical troubleshooting of simulation, audiovisual, and learning management systems, escalating complex issues when necessary.
- Maintains compliance with industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to simulation education and technology.
- Advanced Instructional Support & Program Development
- Directs simulation curriculum integration, collaborating with faculty to optimize instructional methodologies and learning objectives.
- Leads orientation and training sessions for learners, faculty, and standardized patients, ensuring proficiency in simulation-based education.
- Facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration, fostering partnerships between healthcare providers, educators, and simulation stakeholders.
- Provides strategic input on expanding program offerings, recommending innovative simulation modalities and learning technologies.
- Participates in continuous professional development, attending conferences and training to stay current with simulation industry advancements.
- Research & Data Analytics
- Supports faculty-led research initiatives, advising on simulation-based research methodologies and data collection strategies.
- Utilizes analytics to assess program effectiveness, learner performance, and operational outcomes, driving data-informed decision-making.
- Oversees documentation and reporting processes, maintaining records for accreditation, evaluation, and internal research projects.
- Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Acts as a liaison between the simulation center and external partners, including healthcare organizations, vendors, and academic institutions.
- Contributes to strategic planning, identifying opportunities for innovation, expansion, and investment in cutting-edge simulation technology.
- Mentors junior team members, fostering professional growth and skill development in simulation operations and educational technology.
- American Heart Association Program Coordination & Instruction
- Leads American Heart Association (AHA) course coordination, ensuring compliance with instructional standards and best practices.
- Serves as course coordinator and instructor for BLS, ACLS, and PALS programs, providing high-quality educational experiences for participants.
- Implements quality assurance measures, evaluating course effectiveness and maintaining instructional excellence.
Qualifications

- Advanced proficiency in simulation technologies, learning management systems, and audiovisual equipment.
- Strong analytical skills, capable of assessing program effectiveness and technical performance.
- Leadership and mentoring experience, guiding junior staff and facilitating professional development.
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities in high-pressure, dynamic environments.
- Expertise in curriculum development, instructional design, and learner assessment strategies.
Requirements
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) (or ability to obtain within 2 years).
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS Instructor Certification.
