ABOUT THE ROLE

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of assigned payrolls while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, provincial, and local regulations. Performs payroll transactions, audits payroll data, researches payroll discrepancies, and provides exceptional customer service to employees, managers, and business partners.

Essential Functions

  • Process assigned payrolls accurately and within established payroll schedules
  • Process employee payroll changes, including new hires, terminations, tax withholding, direct deposit, earnings, deductions, garnishments, and other payroll updates
  • Prepare manual checks and off-cycle payroll adjustments as needed
  • Research and resolve routine payroll discrepancies
  • Retrieve data for audit requests
  • Assist with payroll audits and reconciliations
  • Process and maintain wage garnishments, child support orders, tax levies, and other involuntary deductions in accordance with applicable laws, court orders, and company policies
  • Support payroll team members with administrative tasks, data entry, reporting, filing, and special projects as assigned
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee payroll information and comply with company policies regarding sensitive data
  • Provide cross-functional support to ensure continuity of payroll operations during peak processing periods or staff absences
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Essential functions of this position are to be performed at a Company-designated office or field location
  • Understand and comply with the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy and other industry-specific professional and ethical standards

ABOUT YOU

Qualifications

  • Two (2) or more years of payroll, accounting, finance, or related experience
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud HCM, JD Edwards (E1), Construction Monkey, or similar payroll systems preferred

Preferred Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Business, Human Resources, or related field is preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Working knowledge of payroll processing, payroll regulations, wage and hour requirements, and payroll calculations
  • Working knowledge of payroll systems, timekeeping, garnishments, and employee maintenance
  • Basic understanding of payroll auditing principles
  • Payroll processing and data analysis skills
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Customer service and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications
    • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
  • Time management and organization skills
    • Ability to process payroll accurately while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to analyze payroll discrepancies and resolve routine issues
  • Ability to interpret payroll policies and procedures
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary $37,772 - 70,149 / year
    • Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
