What to Expect

As ajuniorinterior designer in Tesla's LA Design Studio Team, you willbe responsible forthe interior design development of future Tesla vehicles.You will be part of the team that creates and executes world-class vehicle designs in terms of form and function.

Using yourexceptional creativity and passion for vehicle product development, you will primarily be tasked with creatinginteriordesigns for futurevehicles, but you may also be called upon for other design tasks (exterior design,humanoidrobotics design,product design, spaceship design, etc.) based on your skillset. Our design team prides itself on being multitalented and flexible, and we look for the same in our potential candidates. You will report to a designmanagerand this positionresidesin Tesla's Design Studio in Hawthorne, California.


What You'll Do
  • Develop interior design proposals for Tesla vehicles, ranging from broad design themes all the waydownto component-level design
  • Create compelling sketches and 3D models that show a vision for the future of Tesla designlanguage and strategy
  • Guide a design from the sketch phase to concept modeling in Alias or clay, and through to A-class surfacingand functioning physical prototypes
  • Work with engineers tocome up withdesign and engineering solutions that serve the design visionandthat alsofit withinthe engineering constraints
  • Participate in cross-functional strategy, timing, and process discussion as it pertains to vehicle development
  • Work with CMF designers to create designs that consider the opportunities and limits of the color and trim vision, and work with them to create a unified vision for the designs
  • Occasionallyparticipatein design efforts outside of your area of expertise

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Automotive or Transportation Design, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of2years of experience in production automotive design, or a combination of advanced and production design
  • Must have a strong understanding of form, proportion, material usage and sculpture to create vehicle interior designs
  • Must have a strong understanding of human-centric design and how humans use and interact with interior spaces and volumes
  • Must havesometechnical knowledge of prototyping, manufacturing, and assembly processes as it relates to automotive design
  • Excellent 2D sketching skills and some 3D modelling skills essential
  • Excellent understanding of current AI image and video generation tools, specifically in the creative and industrial design fields

    Expected Compensation
    $87,400 - $153,900/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
