What You'll Do Inedibles Operator - Operate machinery and other devices in the work area. Enter information into the computer system, communicate with customers, maintenance members and co-workers in English. Must speak, write and read English. Troubleshooting experience. AFD Operators are responsible for running the entire building known as Animal Foods. Operators run equipment from the main control room. There are close to 100 different motors, augers, machines, pumps, sprayers, and conveyers all running at the same time while we are cooking. An operator is responsible for all of it. An operator must be able to read visual cues on a computer screen to determine whether the room is running as it should. It is the job of the operator to adjust settings as needed to maintain maximum efficiency. The numbers on the screens tell the story of how the room is running. It is the job of the operator to read the numbers and determine if something is wrong or to maintain settings if things are running well. There are two main operators per shift with the exception being third shift. Third shift is only one operator. The two operators rotate each day between in and out of the control room. One day an operator will run the room from the control room and the next they will be out on the main floor dumping combos, loading trucks, and cleaning. All operators are trained to do everything. The rotation came about to get the guys some variety in terms of duties performed. Third shift is mostly responsible for cleaning. However, downtime does happen and the third shift operator needs to be able to run through the night when called upon to do so.
