The Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University is seeking a part-time Admissions Assistant to support the JD Admissions Office. About the Position:


The Admissions Assistant offers administrative and front-office support to the JD Admissions Office, handling inquiries from prospective students, applicants, admitted students, and visitors.


This is a temporary, part-time position designed to provide additional administrative and front-office support to the JD Admissions Office during a period of staffing transition. The initial employment is temporary, however, may be extended under departmental needs and funding.


The Admissions Assistant will handle front desk duties, provide administrative support to the Associate Dean for Admissions and Enrollment Management, assist with purchasing, organize admissions events, manage Student Ambassadors, and oversee daily office operations.


Work Schedule: The Admissions Office operates from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. It is anticipated to require 18-25 hours of work per week during those hours. Priority will be given to candidates who can work Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Specific workdays and hours will be established based on departmental needs and the selected candidate's availability.


Hourly Rate: Pay up to $24.00 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.


Responsibilities:



  • Serve as a first point of contact for the JD Admissions Office by greeting and assisting prospective students, admitted students, applicants, and visitors;
  • Answer and direct Admissions Office phone calls and respond to or route general inquiries;
  • Provide administrative support to the Associate Dean for Admissions and Enrollment Management, including scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, preparing materials, and assisting with other administrative needs;
  • Assist with purchasing and financial administration, including purchase orders, reimbursements, vouchers, invoices, and supply orders;
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for prospective and admitted student recruitment and other Admissions Office events;
  • Assist with day-to-day administration of the Student Ambassador program, including scheduling, communications, timekeeping, and coordination for Admissions Office programs and activities;
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating prospective student tours, group visits, appointments, and other visitor-facing activities;
  • Assist with Admissions Office communications, correspondence, mailings, and routine administrative follow-up;
  • Enter and maintain information in admissions databases, spreadsheets, and other office records;
  • Prepare materials, reports, spreadsheets, and correspondence as needed;
  • Assist with general office organization and daily administrative operations; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the JD Admissions Office.


Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree required;
  • Experience in a customer-facing, administrative, or office support role;
  • Professional demeanor and ability to serve as a first point of contact for students, applicants, and visitors;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel;
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion; and
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Previous experience working in higher education, particularly in admissions or student services;
  • Experience providing administrative support to a manager or senior-level professional;
  • Experience with purchasing, reimbursements, invoices, or related administrative processes;
  • Familiarity with student information systems or admissions databases, such as Unite or similar systems;
  • Experience supporting events or front-office operations; and
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to exercise sound judgment in handling inquiries.
