Aon is seeking an Attorney with employment law firm experience to join our team!

This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both virtually in Chicao, IL and from our Chicago office.

What the day will look like

As a member of Aon's Employment Law Team, you will assist a dynamic team of attorneys providing strategic, practical legal advice affecting a broad range of employees. You will be a trusted advisor supporting Aon's People Organization, business leaders, and other collaborators.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Routinely advise HR and business leaders on all aspects of the employee life cycle, including hiring, performance management, compensation, accommodations, leave, consequence management, terminations, pay equity, and restrictive covenants.
  • Advise on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws including, but not limited to: FLSA, ADA/ADAAA, ADEA, Title VII, EPA, FMLA, OWBPA and state and local equivalents.
  • Assist with and manage outside counsel as it relates to employment litigation including: restrictive covenant and breach of contract claims, discrimination and retaliation claims, and wage and hour claims.
  • Advise on matters related to employment agreements and compliance with restrictive covenants.
  • Manage and respond to employment-related claims, demand letters, and administrative agency/EEOC charges.
  • Draft employment, separation, and compensation agreements and plans.
  • Support internal investigations.
  • Assist with reductions in force and compliance with OWBPA.
  • Partner with HR regarding investigation of internal complaints.
  • Provide employment law support on cross-functional projects, such as corporate transactions/deals.
  • Draft, review, and revise employment-related documents and policies.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory updates at the federal, state, and local level and proactively update company policies and practices as needed.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
  • 5 or more years of relevant employment law experience with a law firm. In-house experience preferred but not required. Employment and restrictive covenant litigation experience is essential.
  • Positive and collaborative demeanor and willingness to roll up your sleeves to work on a wide range of routine to complex projects. Collaboration and Interaction skills.
  • Experience advising on employment laws and managing risk.
  • Deep expertise and working knowledge of US employment laws; knowledge of Canada and Caribbean is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal clients, including senior leadership, and work collaboratively across multiple functional groups.
  • Ability to balance legal risks with business objectives and propose strategic solutions.
  • Ability to manage numerous projects and deadlines, handle client expectations, and prioritize matters appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment to drive projects from start to finish with minimal oversight. Experience working in a large, matrixed organization is highly desirable. Accountability.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate sophisticated legal concepts clearly and effectively to non-lawyers.
  • JD and member of any state bar in good standing.
  • Education: JD/Law degree required

Pay Transparency Laws:

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $160,000 to $175,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon's annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
