THE POSITION

The Legal Assistant 1 position with the Office of Chief Counsel, Department of State is a great opportunity to support important legal work that helps keep state operations running smoothly. You will be joining a team that values accuracy, teamwork, and strong communication. This role gives you daily variety as you prepare documents, review information, and assist attorneys. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role supports attorneys by preparing legal documents, reviewing case information, and helping keep office operations organized and accurate. As a Legal Assistant 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Legal Support: Prepare filings, review documents, and assist with case processing tasks
  • Case Review: Analyze incoming matters to determine steps needed for proper handling
  • System Entry: Update licensing and case information in required electronic systems
  • Document Preparation: Draft and proofread correspondence and legal materials for accuracy
  • Exhibit Management: Organize and manage exhibits for hearings and appeals, including for filings or binder creation
  • Office Operations: Process incoming mail and provide phone coverage to the public

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, after 6 months of employment. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of responsible clerical, enforcement or investigative work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
