HJF is seeking a Licensed Mental Health Professional who will be responsible for contributing to the growth and maintenance of the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) project. SBHP is a national training and referral initiative that is building a network of civilian community mental health providers across the 54 U.S. states and territories and an online therapist directory to support the military population, with an emphasis on National Guard (NG) members.

The position will serve as the project lead and subject matter expert for developing and implementing an SBHP Center Designation Pilot in one state to recognize public-serving community Mental health clinics that meet established criteria for providing high-quality, military-informed care with low- or no-cost services. The pilot will establish a foundational SBHP center designation framework for future expansion to other states. These activities will require collaborating closely with key stakeholders and partners to support the pilot development and implementation. This position will also serve as the project lead and subject matter expert for implementing SBHP website-related enhancements and new functionalities, such as the development of educational videos for service members that demonstrate how to use the SBHP Directory and the design and implementation of an AI Conversational Agent (chatbot) to guide military users through the SBHP Directory search process on the website to more efficiently identify well-matched therapists.

This position will be in support of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences' Consortium for Defense Psychology (CDP), which is based in Bethesda, MD. The Licensed Military Mental Health Provider will assist with activities related to CDP's mission, which is to lead the development of a community of military culturally mindful and clinically competent providers through the delivery of high-quality training and education, the convening of experts, and the dissemination of research-based treatment and the latest topics in military Mental health. The Henry M. Jackson Foundation provides administrative and management support to the Consortium. CDP strives to be the central hub for the Military Health System (MHS) in the development and implementation of training and education to clinicians in order to ensure that all service members, veterans, and their families receive quality mental healthcare that meets their unique needs.

  • Establishing foundational clinic designation criteria and developing procedures for tracking designation status.
  • Assessing potential state readiness and recruiting up to five participating clinics.
  • Creating and adapting training curriculum and resources for the pilot.
  • Performing outreach and providing education to participating clinics.
  • Coordinating and promoting stakeholder engagement in the selected state.
  • Identifying, monitoring, and evaluating pilot data and outcomes.
  • Writing reports and delivering briefs on findings and scalability.
  • Develop SBHP website-related enhancements and new functionalities, such educational videos.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of an AI Conversational Agent (chatbot) to guide military users through the SBHP Directory search process.
  • Collaborating closely with key stakeholders and partners to support SBHP website-related enhancements.
  • Deliver online and in-person training on military culture, military mental health conditions, and other service-related topics, which includes developing and updating presentations and training materials based on the literature.
  • Represent SBHP virtually and in-person at state and national military and civilian conferences and planning events to raise SBHP's national profile.
  • Assist with other strategic communications, outreach, programming, metrics, and efficiencies to strengthen the SBHP community of practitioners, foster engagement with NG mental health officers, and support the National Guard Bureau.
  • Contribute to CDP's subject matter expert blog posts, podcasts, videos, infographics, and asynchronous training materials.
  • The incumbent may perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree required in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health required, Doctoral Degree preferred in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating pilot programs and measuring program outcomes required.
  • Technical knowledge and expertise in website development, digital technologies, and AI tools is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write professional correspondence, educational and marketing materials, and reports, as well as to provide briefings and updates to internal and external partners.
  • Experience delivering professional presentations to adult learners, and developing curricula, training materials, and other educational resources.
  • Engaging clinical and non-clinical staff with different experience levels, responding effectively to questions, and conveying points clearly.
  • Knowledge of military populations and military mental health issues, with a strong commitment to advancing DoD-approved evidence-based psychotherapies.
  • Knowledge of the Reserve Component as well as NG practices and policies related to mental health care is preferred.
  • Clinical experience providing mental health services to adult clients.
  • Ability obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Active clinical license to practice within the U.S. is required. LMHC, LCSW, LPC, LCPC, or LPCC would be acceptable.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a remote office setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $93,100-$123,965. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
