IMEG is hiring an Electrical Engineering Intern in New York, NY. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems for a variety of building types while working closely with experienced engineers and consultants on real project work.

You'll support project documentation, cross-disciplinary coordination, job site observations, and quality-focused reviews while contributing to projects that must meet budget, client, and schedule expectations. You'll join a team focused on education projects, especially public-school modernization work, while advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You'll Do

  • Assist with electrical system design work according to code and IMEG standards

  • Research commercially available equipment for project needs

  • Support client relations, maintain the project design notebook, and document records for permanent files

  • Coordinate design and schedule with other disciplines, clerical staff, equipment suppliers, and project partners

  • Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project progress

  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check

  • Prepare and issue addendum information

  • Conduct periodic job site observations and support other services required by the contract services agreement

What You'll Bring

Required

Education and Experience

  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interest in design consulting

  • Previous exposure to CAD and/or BIM software

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Preferred

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 Pounds

  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull

  • Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises

  • Service mix is centered on PK-12 public education modernization work, with a strong emphasis on core MEP delivery across electrification, accessibility, flood mitigation, kitchens, auditoriums, additions, and closeout-driven renovation scopes. Electrical-led work shows up often, but many projects carry full mechanical, electrical, and plumbing scope, with fire protection folded in where needed.

  • They also handle feasibility, assessment, and selective energy-modeling or construction-administration support on broader school programs. Overall, the portfolio suggests a team that is especially strong in public-school building system upgrades and renovation coordination.

State of New York Pay Range: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour

The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location.

Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate's experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.

Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
