The Associated Press seeks a multiplatformvideoproducer witha solidtrack recordof video storytelling toproducedailyvideoin the U.S. East Coast afternoon and evening hours.This newsgathering position is based in Washington, D.C.Thisspecializedrolewithin the bureauiskeytoour coverage oftheWhiteHouse,Congressand politics, delivering content tailored fornewsrooms anddigital platforms.In thisrole, you willworkcloselywithother staffers inthe bureauandcoordinatewith the global video production teamto deliver engaging journalism that serves our customers and helps grow AP's audience.This roleiscrucial inmaintainingAP's reputation and producingpremiumvideoson some of our most important stories.This is a staff position covered by AP's agreement with the News Media Guild.


What you will do:



  • Edit breaking news video from live feeds, from journalists, from partner and user generated content, on deadline, with a focus on content related to U.S. government and politics





  • Edit story elements quickly and creatively to produce strong visual narratives fornewsroomsand digital audiences





  • Produce video edits in a variety of stylesincludingfor customer use (Newsroom Ready),as well as foronline and social mediause, and for use on AP's digital properties





  • Record regular on-camera dispatches and voice-over for digital video treatmentsto help explaincomplexpolitical stories and givecontext





  • Write relevant storylines andshotlistswith speed and accuracy.





  • Mustbe able todemonstratea track recordandability tosource, verifyand clearusergenerated content





  • Exercise excellent news judgement when making editorial decisions



We'relooking for someone who has:



  • ademonstrated understanding of Washington politics, strong news judgement and storytelling skills that appeal to digital audiences





  • advanced-levelprofessional competency in non-linear video editing, preferably with DaVinci Resolve, with a demonstrated ability to use visual effects and graphics to enhance storytelling, improve audience engagement and produce compelling, high-quality video content





  • theability and willingness to work a schedule normally running from 1:00pm-9:00pm ET on weekdays, and the flexibility to work other hours, including nights and weekends, when news demands.





  • experience creating content for digital audiences, anda fluency in thevariety ofaudienceconsumption patterns ondifferent online platforms





  • a track recordofidentifyingtrendingstoriesand producingsocial videosthat people will want to share, like and talk about





  • Experience working with and coaching reporters to appear on camera for regular, engaging dispatches and debriefs on complex and trending stories





  • a history of working under deadlinesand whothrives in a breaking news environment





  • strong writing skills in English and can write to picture clearly and succinctly






  • strong communicationskills and the ability to work collaboratively with the diverse team of journalists at the AP whooperatein all formats: text, photo, video, audio, digital/social, interactive and graphics





  • a fluencyinpursuinginnovativeproductiontechniqueswhile consistentlymaintainingAP's standards for integrity and objectivity.





  • a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.





  • at least three years of full-time experience at a daily newspaper,video newsroom, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk.





  • authorization to work in the United States.





  • advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English.

This position is covered by The Associated Press' contract with the News Media Guild, whichprovides foran annual salary for Class A staff of between $53,477 and $85,214 based on location and years of professional experience.Compensation iscontingenton a job candidate's skills,qualificationsand market location. Employees are eligible toparticipate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan and employer-sponsored health insuranceplan, andare eligible for paid time off and holidaysin accordance withAP policy.
