What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a Sr. Quality Manager for Cell Engineering to lead the quality assurance team towards ensuring products meet the highest standards of product quality and reliability. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully transitioning new product designs from concept into production while maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency. The battery cell is one of the most complex and challenging components designed and manufactured at Tesla. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Tesla's world-class manufacturing facilities. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work on a critical subsystem of an incredibly exciting product.

What You'll Do
  • Manage a team of quality managers, engineers and technicians, providing guidance and support to ensure that quality goals are met
  • Demonstrate EXTREME ownership and accountability, with highly efficient problem solving, decision-making, and risk assessment
  • Lead identification, root cause analysis, and resolution using 8D methodology and other structured problem-solving tools to resolve manufacturing quality issues
  • Track quality performance metrics, prioritize top issues, and drive continuous improvement activities with cross-functional team
  • Lead core quality tools activities to ensure design and manufacturing issues are identified and risks are mitigated
  • Drive cross-functional projects with manufacturing, supply chain, production quality, and research teams to test existing and determine new product specifications and tolerances
  • Develop product/process control plans, inspection standards, testing plans and instructions, work instructions and manufacturing validation plans to ensure manufacturing capability and product reliability
  • Manage non-conforming cell process flows via containments and evaluate risk of suspect materials while working closely with internal and external teams to identify disposition and resolve root cause

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of quality engineering and management experience, with a proven track record leading quality assurance and advancing through progressive leadership roles
  • Experienced in ISO 9001, ISO/TS or IATF 16949, APQP, and PPAP or similar
  • Specific training and demonstrated success in applying structured problem-solving tools (8D, A3, DMAIC, 5Why, Fishbone (Ishikawa) Diagram, Measurement System Analysis, Process Capability Analysis, DoE, etc.)
  • Experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing with a track record for achieving consistent quality over a large number of tools is a must have
  • Experience with battery failure analysis, battery design and/or battery manufacturing is highly desired
  • Strong management skills with a track record for building successful teams in the quality space
  • Experience transitioning products from prototype to production, and introducing new equipment and processes into a production environment
